Hi :)

So as some of you may know, I picked up my 2003 Silver DC5 Type R today from Canberra. She quite neat inside and out with only 117k kms, rego till Jan! Has full service history at Honda from day 1 and reading over the receipts the Drive shafts and engine mounts have been done :)

Like I said its bog stock besides a SRI Injen intake and aftermarket head unit.

At the moment I'm going to just obviously maintain it and small minor things (like my italian flag on the rear view :) )! In the future i'd like to follow this order or mods

Powercoat wheels matte black
Catback Xforce twin loop exhaust
CAI Injen intake to bar
Double din head unit
BC or Silver Neo Coilovers
Headers
Wheels or Hondata!

Now I know most likely it wont happen in this particular order but i'll try. I was guna say 'I won't mod it keep it stock lalal' but we all know that never happens!

The drive home from Canberra was sweat! Full tank (top bloke), only used just under half a tank of fuel to get back got about 280kms to it so quite good on fuel!

Haven't taken any proper photos yet but for the mean time!

A small addition to the front grill, TYPE R :D

Front end now looks like this
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6020/6199851720_d02891a1dc_b.jpg

I could smell burning oil when driving sometimes and we checked the car EVERYWHERE for any leaks...nothing. So Hmm lets take off this cover....

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6150/6199834646_2a1718f89b_b.jpg

(not pictured) there was a large spill going from oil cap under cover down to here! Who ever did the oil changed deserves to be punched in the forehead!

MAN how awesome was Honda Nationals! Some quality cars there!

Anyway, once that was over tonight i've started polishing and waxing the car. I've so far done Front bumper, front guards and bonnet before there was no more light!

Weapon Choice
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6218/6229673721_399070311f_b.jpg

Results : Smooth and clear as a babies bum!
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6049/6230188014_b780d322cf_b.jpg

Ok so i attatcked my headlights again with Mothers clay bar followed by Autosol metal polish then car polish, the results were much better again but i think its safe to say the rest of the 'fog' is on the inside of the lens which i think could be a mixture of SUN damage and the lights it self

CRYSTAL CLEAR when the lights are off
not best example

As some of you may or may not know i got some Buddyclub N+ for the DC5 about 3 weeks ago. Want to lower the front a little more to fill the gap but don't want the car to nose dive either.

Need to also get camber bolts for the front so i can run more camber (probably when i buy rims)

Thanks mike! :)

14.8 down the quarter last night. Not too bad was hoping for a 14.5 though. Found out today i had a broken engine mount thus leaking oil everywhere!

Hope to go out once i have a exhaust, better tyres and a fixed mount.

Looking into getting hardrace solid mounts although i want to save for an exhaust my mate is selling to me which consists of Toda headers, toda cat and power getter catback, also getting his ep3 swaybar and injen CAIto replace my SRI. Should be good :)

nice runs, you need to work on that launch though way too much wheel spin, ride the clutch a bit
what tyres were you using ? if street tyres , next time dont do a burnout

Flippit
16-12-2011, 09:00 AM
lawll i wouldnt call it a drag car mike :D street car more like it!

some shitty cheapo tyres that came with the car. planning on getting some re002

i dont think im gettong to much wheel spin cause its not like its revving out to 8000 when i launch. id launch at about 4k and the revs would go to about 5 then start moving from there. cause you can still here vtec kick in after i launvh so the revs arent high enuf to be spinning if you get what i mean?

GSi_PSi
16-12-2011, 09:36 AM
Your wheel hopping way too much, probably cause of the shitty tyres. Just keep practising out there and your times will drop as you progress, the 3rd gear is a bit of a pain to get in ay lol

Flippit
16-12-2011, 11:31 AM
shitty tyres but more also the soft engine mounts. i also noticed the last run when i let the tyres down i got less wheel hop!
yeah lmao 3rd is a bitch to get sometimes

Paint Job came out pretty good for wrinkle paint can! Few spots didn't actually wrinkle but other than pretty happy with the outcome.

Aftermarket clear indicators done today.

What a stuff around for such a small mod. Had to cut the clip so it would flex as it was solid connected to the housing where as the OEM are seperate and flex. Then i had to file down the other side of the housing to fit. Also the lens came off so i had to re-seal and glue it on oh and also the globe housing only had 2 cutouts for it to fit where as OEM has 4 so also had to squeeze that in.

2min job turned into 15 but ahh well looks sweet!

So removed front bar ready for installtion of Injen CAI and some white/blue Narva Gloves. Was going to do HID's but might just put that off for now.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7031/6677027287_8e203e88d0_z.jpg

While the front bar was off and was waiting for mate to drop off the Injen I decided to polish up the plastic surrouns of the foglight cover hole and also repaint the mesh as it had seen better days.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7020/6677051443_ef74039ecb_z.jpg

Before the accident my condensor was black, they put a silver one on and although yeah it looked like a intercooler from far (lol) I wanted it black again to make the front end look tidy again.

And final engine bay shot. Looks really empty now, thinking of mounting a catch can to the strut tower there, maybe some braided lines, fill up the engine bay and make it look dressy, nice strut brace later down the track should also look sweet. :)

Engine covers as in the plastics ivtec or the actual rocker cover?
Plastics I scuffed them up, plastic primered the heat proof black.
Rocker cover i Scuffed it back and used VHT Wrinkle Red, then let it dry infront of heater for 24 hrs regularly turning it, still was fresh after that and fragile so i carefully bolted it back to the car and drove the car around which baked it nicely!

sleek engine bay man! nice work!

Time for a new one? :D

I tried one of those DIY kits from Autobarn for my lights, no idea how they got so foggy - didn't do a very good job, the sand paper wasn't labeled which made it harder (not too experienced to be honest). Been trying to get ahold of a guy from Touch Up Guys who restore headlights, hoping he can bring it to brand new standards because cloudy headlights really ruin a clean front.

New Spark Plugs
Mu Secret 6k HID's
New Secondary O2 Sensor with Harness extension
3rd set of New Genuine Honda Headlights

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7198/6894977544_7b84769154_z.jpg

Installed the new Secondary o2 sensor and proper extension harness (old one was cut and lengthened) hoping it would remove CEL. Unfortunately it didn't work even with a angled defouler on it. I have purchased a second defouler awaiting on arrival will install this one also and see if the CEL turns off, heard sometimes 2 or even 3 defoulers are needed to restrict the air flow.

Car was getting hesitation and spluttering at low revs on half throttle. Changed spark plugs and it did the trick :)
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7197/7041076053_0393ffd878_z.jpg

Removed front end again today (so over it) install HID's and new headlights. Will see if these headlights build up condensation like the last 2 sets bloody honda!

yeh i know the feeling. btw in dry weather u should do a sharp brake test to make sure the camber bolts dont slip under pressure. do it in a safe environment tho. because if they give way in a emergency u dont want ur wheels flopping about!
and imo go 17" to me and most ppl feel that 18" is for ppl that think bigger= better. seems too showy imo.

I was wondering, did you end up resolving the CEL from the header?

Also, where did you get the lip from and how hard was it to install? Did you drill and bolt it onto the stock lip? (I'm thinking about doing this to my DC5 lol)

Nah not yet, I still need to buy a new primary sensor! :( Just reminded me i might do that next!

Got the lip from the states on ebay. its a 2006-2007 STI lip, lines up pretty good just need to cut ends. they come with screws but we bolted mine in, 15 bolts later the front bar would come off before that lip would rip off aahha!

When i stripped the rear interior to install strut brace I got carried away and took off tail lights and thought I'd change the gaskets now and save my self from a pond boot later. They were not leaking but rather be safe then sorry...got carried away so took the whole rear bumper off for a good clean!

so today went out to incar racing again to get another power run to see what the main differences were with the exhaust and intake. Although I could feel it mid range i wanted to see some numbers and graphs ahah!

Green Line - Stock K20A2 with Injen SHORT RAM
Red Line - Stock K20A2 with Toda headers, toda cat, powergetter catback & Injen CAI!

Although the final figure of 122kw is barely different to the old run, the mid range power and torque is majorly different, more useable power! power mods it stops here, eventually KPRO & tune and maybe intake manifold with bigger TB.

Pretty happy :)

yeah well the high rpm/top end power figure is not really a concern cause you see the power is more throughout the whole rev range and at the last say 500 rpm's is where it evens outs.

Thats excellent gains, can see 15kw increase in some of the midrange. Definately get a Kpro + tune which will see you making the most of the I/H/E you have installed
any idea on your choice of tuner?

exactly what i was discussing today with the owner of the shop, the mid range increase is anywhere from 3 -15kw which is quite an improvement and power delivery is much better. Just wondering now if the heavier and bigger 17's would have effected the dyno run?

the workshop i go to is possibly investing in hondata as they do power fc's, nistunes, haltechs you name it, very good tuner so hopefully by the time im ready for kpro they will do mine.

if not second option would be insight motorsport most likely.

Still waiting for Brembos to come back from being professionally painted. Hopefully end of this week.

Painted my wheels with Plastidip blue, I originally wanted orange but in Australia they don't sell orange in a pressure can only in 4L tins.
I'm 50/50 with this color of choice, I've purchased some fluoro orange paint to put OVER the plastidip and i'll see if i like that. If not i'll peel it all off and leave it black.

Well with rims you get a lot of 'wasted paint' compared to a bonnet.

When spraying the insides of the spokes id say 50% of the spray is missed and floats away, you can't spray too close or else you will get runs easily from this paint.
Where as a bonnet is massively flat and you don't necessarily 'miss'.

yeh i know, but never the less its still a lot to cover some rims, in comparison to a bonnet.

Haven't had a good update in awhile so heres one to keep you entertained!

Decided to plasti-dip my wheels Light blue (originally wanted orange). Turned out ok, it grew on me but I still wanted orange so i purchased some basic fluro orange paint and painted on top of the plasti-dip thinking it would still just peel off....well I was wrong ahah!

Rocked the blue and orange for a little while then reverted back to black, Put on my brembos and now my exterior is complete me thinks! (besides a mugen rear lip ONE day)

Also finally ordered a New Primary Denso O2 sensor and got rid of that CEL light WOOP!!
Put some red SR4's in also !

Overall Honda Nationals was pretty damn awesome!
Minor set back, after first passenger session relised I had a nail in my tyre on the edge. Took the safe choice and headed back to Goulburn's local tyre shop to have the tyre removed, fixed and sealed from inside then re fitted!
No dramas since and has been awesome!

Best time today was a 1:13.88. Very happy with my time and still needs some tweaks!
After today I now know i need to :
Raise the rear
Purchase larger rear sway bar
next set of tyres need to be 235, 225 on 9" = stretch which compromises handling
more track time

Hopefully some pictures start floating around of my car on the track so i can throw them up here!

Prior to Honda Nationals I have not driven for 9 months, so I had to learn my car in that day, with missing 1 timed session I;m very happy with my results and can't wait to go out again!

with that acceleration pushing the rear of your car down more it looks like u need to lift the back up, make it firmer. and if the front still pulls up lower it, and maybe even try softer settings.

Yeah I'll be raising the rear a little for track and for WSID so will be great. I've dampered the rear to be harder a touch so should do it some good!

I like it how you take care of your car, I like to do the same. Personally I find a low bum unusual above all things, I like a car to have equal height, or slightly raised rear.

Problem is cars like Type R, S15, WRX (insert sub 45k car here) are cheap performance cars, so people rarely take care of them. 80k+ Euros will most likely be garaged, well serviced, barely driven and taken care of, but a DC5r will most likely be thrashed, never serviced due to the young owner having debts or no money, and the paintwork will usually be farked due to parking on the street (garage full because share-house). Takes ages to find a truly clean one, but that's all part of the fun.

Most have high ks because they are DD. I don't know anyone that owns a DC5 or equivalently priced car and barely drives it.

shieeet eh. I hope the suspension period is not too long. Look at it as keeping those kms low. My car has only got 71k km. Managed to buy it off the original owner in Feb with genuine 63k km. Freakin amazing for an early 2001 model car.

Yeah you right in saying that! But im the sort of person even if it was a $3000 charade I'd still have it clean/spotless and fix any flaws cause thats just how I am! I'm going to drop the front 5mm-10mm, see how it sits, if still sunken at back then raise rear. Your bloody lucky to have purchased it at such low kms keeping it pristine :)

Nothing major but today at work during lunch break I put the car up on the Hoist and put some exhaust heat wrap around the headers where It sits next to the rear engine mount, just to stop heat attacking the mount and hardening/cracking the rubber. Probably wouldn't happen anyway but better to be safe than sorry!
Just wish I did this prior to install!

JDM update YO! lol....

Found a JDM rear bar on Ebay pretty cheap from QLD, rang and bargained them a little. Nek minut (3days) it was at my door! Whilst this was on its way, My Mugen rep rear lip was also on its way (along side with a mugen front lip which I'm selling off)

Being a replica rear lip the fitments was not as good as i liked, even after the body shop had painted and fitted it for me it required some heating up with the gun and re-shaping and im about 95% happy with how it sits now! Few more touch ups here and there!

Big thanks to Alex (plathingg) for helping me out with info i needed and motivating me to modify the rear bar as pictured below.

So here it is at my house, first thing was removing the rear lip and putting it up for sale, money back woop, mock up numberplate location and had to modify the plate so it would fit snug!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8379/8472025413_dc256aff38_c.jpg

Now, the JDM plate being a much taller plate you don't see that big hole above my numberplate, Alex(plaything) brought this to my attention and forced me to fix it which I'm glad I did as it look 100x better!
So found a flat plastic piece which I could use as a base, glued and sealed it to the bumper, clamped down and let it dry!

Not much of an update but,

After Honda Nationals last year I knew my front lower control arm bushes were cracked, left it and attended powercruise. On the Friday (dry day) could feel the car swaying and dipping when turning right, ass end would come out knew it was time to change the bushes.

When pulled out this is what happened to the bush...fell straight out

looks awesome, much work to get the o5-06 mugen rear lip to fit on 02-04 rear bumper?

The panel beater shop did most of the work for me, and then i had to get a heat gun and mould it a bit better to flow with the bumper nicely, bit more to do on it still.

Took the car out to Wakefield for the Circuit Club Anzac day Track day.
I went there in hope of getting into the 1:12's whilst my PB was currently sitting at 1:13.8

Car felt good besides the back brakes being pretty stuffed after first session, they were already on their way out so knew this was a problem. First session had already beaten my PB, only just but with a 1:13.6.

Second session was too much traffic and only managed 1 decent lap...to my suprise it was exactly as session one being a 1:13.6

Third session again too much traffic and i thought this was the end of my day, Noticed Group B's session was quite empty, so I asked to jump on, My last chance to better my PB, couple laps in had BYP's S2000 pretty close up behind me which pushed me harder, about 4th lap i got a 1:13.4 and 2nd last lap pushed even harder clipping the ripple stripping up on 2 wheels which scored me a 1:13.1....So close to the 1:12 I wanted to achieve but None the less still beat my PB and was happy to call it a day.

Unfortunately I didn't get my 1:13.1 on camera as my gopro's battery died but I did get one of my 1:13.6's on camera.
next time I head out i need to dial in more camber at the front (2.1degree currently) and these RE002's 225's are just not cutting it no more, once they are worn out I think 235/40 AD08's are on the agenda which will need ride height adjustment :(

For now, video.
