just wondering is anyone knew how seat retrims are done

eg.
are the pieces cut out a litter oversize, sewn together at the seams pulled over the seat and stapled on the bottom, or are the pieces sewn to the actualy seat?

either way, would the 1st option work?
just gathering ideas, and i know people have said i need an industrial sewing machine but i am thinking of a few ways in my head that a wouldn't need one for? which would be awesome!
thanks for anyones help!

You'd want an industrial sewing machine and you probably shouldn't try it unless you've done something like it before, or know someone who has. Otherwise your DIY retrim will probably end up looking like ass. Thats just my opinion/experience.

I upholstered my rear seat myself. Just had a regular old sewing machine at home.

I opened the seams of the original covers, ironed them put them on the new fabric, cut and sewed them together. ... turned out allright, not perfect but certainly not like ass.

BTW, for non EK4 hatches the EG rear seat is ideal for an upgrade like that.

The rears can be done pretty easily at home, its the fronts that would prove difficult but if your getting/got aftermarket seats for the front then who cares.

Kristin - Nice job with the rears

Thanks for the comments on the rear seats. I had managed to buy two sets of seat covers in ebay.co.uk and used those to create the rear seat.

I put scotchguard farbic protector on them. I know you can wash the covers in the machine (woolens) but I think I'll not do that very often ;-) ... I haven't really had any bad spots on them but a friend of mine just uses lukewarm water with detergent for woolens, dabs it on, dries it off and brushes fabric. Seems to work for him.
