Hey all,

I recently just purchased a 92 civic and its had a massive backyard job and have been installed 4xITB`s and its seriously killing me.. its giving me issues and issues.. i think i might just try and sell the car.. any help would be appreciated..

Yes,I have spoken via PM to prada..and I wish I could help but distance is a problem..

The car is a d16y4 or 8? with ITB's.He is unsure what ecu it's running and if it's been tuned or not but it was running before.

He really needs someone with experience to go over and have a look,if someone is able too...

Did U say U are in Liverpool area prada?

Maybe TODA or is it henny's or something, maybe nearby..

its a d16y4.. i was at TODA yesterday.. without doing a full engine swap its pretty much useless....
And yes its still running stock ECU and there is no point putting another one in because it has its own seperate fuel line..
Its a pain in the ass..

beeza

The y4 ecu is useless,U cant run a stand alone ecu in them, well U can but it's a HUGE effort..because of the 3 wire IACV sensor.Honda's normally run a 2 wire system and supposedly THAT changes everything!

So it was running before with the stock ecu then!?

If it's just the itb's then U can just swap a stock Intake manifold in and reset the ecu.

Is it running injection, with itbs, or quad carbies?

TODA AU
22-09-2011, 01:03 PM
They're not injected quads as such..
They're Keihin CVKD 36mm constant velocity diaphragm type carburetors from a ZXR 750 bike.
The vehicle is a carb model EG & the ECU does very little except control the dissy to a small degree as the dissy is equipped with vacuum advance & the now missing "prince of darkness" vacuum control box for the OEM carb.

there we go.. that pretty much explains it..

And you forgot to add the shitty wiring that is everywhere.. and the maze of blocked pipes...

beeza
22-09-2011, 03:15 PM
So can prada just put the stock Intake manifold in,reset the ecu and all good Adrian?

prada21
22-09-2011, 03:51 PM
not a chance.. im missing pipes and cables... my engine bay is so out of wack... i wish it was that simple..

beeza
22-09-2011, 04:05 PM
So just to be clear, did the previous owner put the itb's on and hoped it worked? And U said it was going before?

prada21
22-09-2011, 04:49 PM
yea.. pretty much the story i have been told was that they brought it off a guy who`s grand father done this bullshit. they brought it for $6,500 and had it for like 8 months and had no problems.. i brought it for 3 and i cant drive it.. its completely screwed...

On the rego papers, theres a different engine number, so i need a blue slip to change it and i can guarantee no one will pass this shit.. which means that i gotta do the car transfer into my name with the wrong engine number...
Just bullshit hassles.. and not cause ive brought the car.. the guys i got it from... now there mobiles are always turned off.. its bullshit..

It drove ok on the test drive.. drove ok on the way home. thats when we noticed 2 of the 4 ITBS wernt even connected to the motor..since then its allllll down hill...

kutso
22-09-2011, 05:45 PM
pull everything out and b swap it

prada21
22-09-2011, 05:55 PM
yea sure dude.. you want to give me the $4,500? which turns the civic to a $8,000 car?

beeza
22-09-2011, 06:32 PM
Just get the d goin'...if ya can.

kutso
22-09-2011, 07:12 PM
4500? lol, im giving you the best advise. looks like you brought a lemon of a car. youll end up spending the same amount of money on a shitty d16 with gay ITBs

prada21
22-09-2011, 07:22 PM
I don't dis agree with u champ.. but I don't have $4,500 just lying around.. I just wished I didn't buy this dump now..

kutso
22-09-2011, 09:19 PM
next best thing would be getting it to run with the stock carb/s again, seeing as toda au says your missing the vacume control box i'd be going to the wreckers and getting one and conecting all the blocked off vacume hoses again.

Fredoops
22-09-2011, 09:21 PM
Can't you rip the engine out and swap another more OEM like d16 in it? I'm sure there's quiet a few on the traders forum for reasonalbly cheap.

prada21
22-09-2011, 09:53 PM
Kutso: I'm going to buy bit by bit for aslong as I can.. but once I'm defected I'm totally screwed and will need a full engine swap before it xan be back on the road =[

No I can't because there's blocked cables every where.. wires cut out I need etc. Its a full on backyard job. Running 8 pound fuel which we managed to get it back to 4 pound.. normal civics run on 2-3 pound..
Its seriously just a messed up job..

prada21
25-09-2011, 09:49 AM
i think im just going to make a project out of it.. do a bit each night once i get it back.. and once i get the parts i need :(

Lots of d-series and b-series engines on this site for cheap, ad peeps here are willing to help, you'll be right.

prada21
25-09-2011, 03:02 PM
yea but i dont have the knowledge to do it myself. thats the problem...

prada21
25-09-2011, 03:43 PM
but i need a control box to start anywhere.. seems as tho i cant buy one from anywhere...

Do your budget first, you might find doing a clean swap would end up being cheaper instead of patching here and there

prada21
25-09-2011, 05:06 PM
To do an enginr swap will cost me atleast $4,000 I don't have that much to spend..

By using the same engine and trying to put that back to stock should cost me half I predict.. but I'm not sure aswell.

I just wanna start somewhere and that place is that box.. and I can't get one anywhere.. =|

I don't know enough to know the best way to go.. =[

Well anyway I'll leave this link here if you ever decide to go the EFI b-series path http://www.hondacivicforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=25068

Reason being is that i just saw a b18c2 with gearbox/ecu/wiring loom for $700 an decent d16's for about the same price. IMO it's easier to drop out/drop in than trying to fiddle pieces here and there. :-)

prada21
25-09-2011, 06:23 PM
Thanks man.
Where are u at? Do you know anyone decent in sydney that could do the swap?
Cheers ^_^

I'm from brisbane so I don't know about shops that does it...

Part wise, I think there is a d16y1 on eBay right now from NSW... Pretty cheap, comes with ECu I think.

Oh and if you do a d16 conversion, this thread migt help:
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?34940-D16Y1-swap-into-EG-Civic-Wiring-Question

Oh and considering the thing is missing carb controller... Wasthe car EFI to began with? If it is thing would be sooooo much easier for you to just return it to efi by dumping a d16 back in.

prada21
25-09-2011, 07:08 PM
Its a d16y4.. its suposed to be efi.. but I'm pretty sure they screwed it and made it carb?? =|

In that case... The mpefi control module should still be there, and you should still have fuel pump in tank and 2x fuel lines etc.....
Lol.. Stop fooking around and just drop another d16 in it lol.
Then rip out your carbied crap and sell parts

prada21
25-09-2011, 09:14 PM
What does the control box look like? And I'm not sure about the fuel pump and stuff
What's mpefi? Lol sorry I don't know much..

LOL!! I wouldn't count on that being in there.. the pissed everything off that they didn't need pretty much.. hence why I gotta start from scratch.. and if urs still there they would of screwed it up some how lol!!

Incorrect.

Its multi point fuel injection. Refers to the fact that there are multiple fuel injectors, one for each cylinder.

As opposed to single point fuel injection. Where a single injector is mounted above a throttle plate. It works just like a carby.

lol since when did all b swap cost 4k? you need to look around at wreckers.
a d16y4 engine with wiring loom can be had for like $250...

stop freaking out lol really not that much of a big job.

prada21
26-09-2011, 09:32 AM
And then dropping a new one in plus wiring the whole car...

26-09-2011, 09:58 AM
ok, if you look around the forums, there is benjammin who can install the engine for you and do the wiring aswelll, he charged me 350 to swap my
old engine, swap the new b20vtec, remove my clutch flywheel and gearbox, install into new engine and put on exhaust etc..

this wrecker sells d16y4's for heaps cheap ($200-400) and does installation for around ~300

Hey guys.. im back from the dead... EFI done..
Thanks to a few people from here :)

I just need 1 more night of wiring up the tail lights and put the back seats on.. clean it up and go get a blue slip :)
I cant wait.. its been a big headache but honestly its been worth it :)

All i need now is a new clutch and a balance and it will drive no issues..
But in the meantime of the swap i have also noticed it has had a hard life :( been hit atleast 4 times.. argh.. but its running and running quite well :)
so i will need to get a new kit and get a panel beater to fix up the body in the future... :(
ITBS still havent been sold but honestly. i dont care anymore.. im sure if someone wanted them they would of pmed me hahahaha

just happy my car is running!!!!

Thanks everyone
