^ as title.
Been looking at these as an alternative to the corolla hatch 02+ but they are so over priced atm. That's why I turned my head to the eu3. What I dont understand is why.. for the same price low-mid range corollas you can get a eu3 with more feature such as power windows, alloy wheels etc.

Also been going through the forum for builds on eu3, none what so ever :{ whyyy?

During its time 2000-2005, Did anyone remember seeing a tv ad or promo about the civic?

If I were to choose between an EP3 and a Stivo I'd probably end up getting the rolla. That 2ZZ-GE is a dream of an engine, even in comparison to the K20. They look absolutely fantastic, while the EP3 does indeed look like a minivan haha. It's just not proportioned right.

i didnt know corolla came in 2 door in the adm, looks more like a yaris/Vitz man

Imo, definate go corolla, simply cause its got the better motor, Dohc 1.8 with VVTI, were as the EU3, the SOHC 1.7

for the money spent, better off with the rolla cause of the parts which are cheaper than honda, and the engine, much better power and torque than the civic

Cant compare the ep3 to the sportivo rolla, too unfair, if anything, the sportivo vs civic vti-L is more a comparable test

I work at a Toyboata dealership, OEM parts aren't cheap, neither are the service cost as the 2ZZ's had a few teething issues with ill-equipped oil pumps that will cause trouble if not serviced. In comparison to the SOHC 1.7, it's chicken and dog food pretty much. 'Lift' is a great addition to a car otherwise labelled as a granny commuter, but I also feel the gear ratio's weren't set up properly to make the most of it. Still a great car though, and would recommend it over an EP3, but not sure how it would fare against a K20 EP3R.

I reside in Jamaica, and I'm yet to see an advertisement for the EU1,2,3,4. I drive a EU1, and there is no dealer support for these models. There is limited modification that can be done to these units unless you are in the mood to do a manual gearbox swap and boost it.

When you look at it this way...

Civic
EK ---> EU

For many, it wasn't that great of a step forward as it was sideways. I saw it that way too, the EU was very awkward looking both the hatch and the sedan. EK owners were quite happy with their EKs and kept them for longer too which wasn't the case when EG - EK happened.

Corolla
AE11X - ZZE12X

Considering how unsightly the AE11X series were... ZZE12X came out good with a nice and edgy design instead of the playdoh of the previous one. They went from the 'unrefined' A-series engine to the ZZ-series engine which are more refined and efficient. Together with the lower pricing at launch [$5k difference from base model according to redbook] not a hard choice imo.

Top end wise though, EP3R definitely the pick over the ZZE123... Driven both of them EP3R definitely much faster stock =) Modification wise you can go further with the EP3Rs too compared to the ZZE123, much more aftermarket support too for the K-series compared to the 2ZZ which was axed shortly after a few years due to emissions.

I like the 4A-GE 20Vs too, I had an AE111... I prefer them over the B16A/B16B...

But we're talking about the EU v ZZE series and AUDM stuff where the 20V never came stock...

D-series don't come near the ZZ...

K walks them though ;)

That's the situation with the EU series here in Jamaica. Personally, I don't mind my EU. There aren't any roads in Jamaica for top speed, so acceleration around corners is more important here and my D15B does that quite well. My only issue is that I want to convert it to a manual transmission and it is seeming difficult to do because there seems to be only gearboxes for the ES1/ES2 and EM2 that could possibly fit. I already ordered the shifter for the EP3

GU357

alot of hassle to do a transmission conversion on a fwd car, especially auto to manual.

Nitrous1024
19-05-2012, 02:27 AM
Why do you think a rwd, manual to auto is going to be any easier?

GU357
19-05-2012, 03:43 AM
because most rwd cars have the gearshift straight into the gearbox or very close. so a FWD one is abit more complicated.

I see what you mean. I'm trying to source a set of shfter /selector cables to pair a EP3 shifter with a D-series box for my EU

GU357

sell the car and buy the manual. OR find a k20 with a manual gearbox and get the shift linkages to suit.
otherwise unless your quite mechanically minded and have the time this will be expensive better off going all out for the k20 too.

Nitrous1024

A K20 swap would cost me upwards of US$4,500 here in Jamaica. I don't need top-end speed on our short roads, I just want to go manual with a gearbox that has good ratios.

Word. EU3's are ****in' boss.

I can fit heaps of shit in mine and still throw it at corners like a little hatch.

Let me see any other hatch fit a whole motorbike in the back of their car.

Don't knock the Jazz/Fit until he has attempted to prove his claim.

On another note: I finally got my EP3 shifter last night, now I'm looking for a pair of cables to connect it to a D-series gearbox.

Do you feel the "weight" of the subwoofer while you drive or during cornering? I wanted to get one installed too, but I don't have anywhere to mount it.

the weight not much mine is slimline and probably has a weight of 10kg's roughly. and is bolted down to a boot floor i made myself so that i wouldnt have to damage the original one.
boot floor is made of 6mm MDF i think. and used hoodliner glue sprayed onto it and carpet to glue it down. hell easy and solid.
