when was it that dc2 vtec meant to kick it
i seem to notice it more around the 6-7k rpm mark
i thought it was meant to be 5.5

i try to listen in to it to see if its running strange

anyone got a video clip of a complete stock dc2 accelerating?
wondering if my dc2 vtec is running off abit

btw this car i pick up not to long ago

Short answer: vtec engages at 4500rpm and 5800rpm (due to the design of the dual stage intake manifold).

B18c2 Vtec engagement is at 4500rpm (first butterflys, not very noticeable its just a little pop). First engagement increase's air intake & builds up air velocity before opening the shorter intake ports at 5,800rpm (secondary butterflys) which increase top end power.

Maybe try and listen a little harder, some people usually are expecting something loud but b18 crossover is more deep and has more of a change in tone unlike a b16 crossover which is more defined... :D

Some apprentice said that I lost VTEC in my B18C2. Went in took it for a spin and it was there. Think people are expecting B16 noises but it's different in the DC2...

the k20a's on the dc5r with extractors and intake screams louder than b18c5's. although the dc2r sounds loud in the car, but outside the car, the dc5r with extractors and intake is fkn loud as fk.

Are you using a stock intake? if so, that's probably why you wont hear the crossover. The stock intake is restricted noise wise due to the oem rubber intake hose and thick airbox.

K series probably isn't as noticeable in the car because the engine is opposite direction oppose to the b series (intake manifold is at the front of the car and not near the firewall)

DC2 stock intake also has a huge resonator to reduce induction noise.

I have lol it was loud but not as loud as a k20a. like i said you gotta listen to the vtec from the outside.

everyone knows B16A's have the loudest cross over!! The reason for this is because they make so little power that by the time they reach 5500rpm they're already running out of puff and then boom! vtec kicks in and the difference is huge. the louder the cross over the more poorly tuned it is, you don't want the power curve to dip too dramatically before vtec kicks. on a Kseries the power curve is more fine tuned then on a B series therefore less noticeable VTEC.

basically the greater the difference in power between on an off vtec will determine its roar!

u mad?

this!

my old b18c7 with j's racing sri was mental, every person who i took for a spin in that car commented on it.

Thank you! My mate heard me driving on the main road in traffic from his house, and he lives a fair distance from the main road lol

+1 definitely do this gives starting point for future maintenance and could fix possible problems.

damn i love that video!

u guys heard the b16b? i have a dc2r now and had a b16b..that b16b was like some1 slapped u in the face(exactly like the R in the vid). my R has an injen and so did the b16b. but yeh i think it just varies cause ive heard a diff tune for each car. random?!?!

ive driven a dc5r with intake and exhaust. Yes it smooth and powerful, but it aint crossin over like a b series!

thats just my opinion though and im sure theres a big debate about this lol.

Tuned k20a crossover ftw

if its tuned it shoudnt have a distinct crossover, but more of a subtle crossover ;)

That clip is not a type r lol. it's an integra gsr (usa), same engine as the integra vti-r (aust.)

The idea when tuning a car with vtec is to smooth out the powerband, so that the car is able to pull when vtec is "off". Dont get me wrong i love the sound of a b-series but after having gone from a b to a k you can tell its a much more refined engine. And in stock form it sounds a bit grandpa like but with a free flowing intake, exhaust and a good tune it screams!!!

this thread should really be titled "which car has the sickest VTEC crossover y0"

does first gear on a b18c2 sound much different before vtec then a b16a2? and then first gear vtec for my car is not very noticeable at all except for seeing the speedo wind up quicker. my second gear+ sounds more like a b16 first gear is this normal?
