Hey Guys,

Im wanting to make a higher displacement block.
I know the b20 is basicly a bored version of the b18a but how strong are the cylinders with this?
Am i better off sleeving a b18a (considering I already have one)?
or start with a b20 block?
I've read there cast the same.
Ill want it to hold a decent amount of boost so strength is key.

Or better off only stroking?

Thanks :)

im getting a B20 turbo built at the moment.

sleeves are stock the rest are forged parts with a built head.

going to be running a dual stage stage map one on 1 bar the other on 1.5 bar

If your building for boost . your better off sleeving, if you want that bit more displacement for down low torque i suggest sleeving the b20b block.
but if you can understand your car off boost will be the same is it is n/a and happy with that sleeved b18 is fine.
The stock b20b cylinder arent the problem its the walls that are 84mm and are quite thin, people have used it for boost and gotten away with it, search Zeforce b20vtec thread,as i recall he didnt go over the 10psi mark but running higher amounts of boost on it is quite risky.

if im sleeving regardless can a b18a block get to 84-85mm safely?
basicly im saying can u convert a b18a to a b20 by sleeving it?
just to save on cost on buyin another block(b20) that i will end up sleeving anyway.
im wanting that down low torque

may as well get the B20 block, there cheap as these days and u will get the little extra torque

im not to sure regarding how much harder it is to press the 84mm sleeves into the b18, the b18a is 81mm and the b20 is 84mm. might have to talk to who ever is going to be sleeving the block but yeah thinking about it now sleeving to the 84mm will make your engine a b20 (sleeeper effect !) as its dimensions are 89mm crank X 84mm bore.Where abouts you thinking of going with the install? Ive heard it is a very delicate process and it is easy to get wrong, as many people have found their motors fail due to a sleeve sunk or sleeve came loose etc so be sure to get some one reputable to install them, here is a start for you to source them out, pity the aussie dollar has shat itself again

those look sweet :)
thanks for help man
Ive done all my engine building at orgers in bayswater, theyve always done a great job and there local.
this is a future plan, nothing i plan to do now.
Was just throwing ideas around

for what i've gathered of this I shud be able to get those sleeves and put them in my block(b18a) then bore out to 85mm

Thanks for the help guys :)
