Hi guys

Need some WHEEL advice......

Ive just had some awesome looking 17 inch wheels and 215-45/17 tyres put on my car. Previously had 205-50/16s with no probs!

Its never been lowered....yet now the rear wheels are rubbing against the guards! Ive just had these rolled......but its still rubbing a bit - and i think its from the edge of the rear bumper top (inside the wheel arch) under extreme turning....Im thinking about getting these grinded off.

Admittedly the 215-45 tyres have a slightly higher profile than they should (other places are recommending 215-40 tyres) but are still within specs according to the tire place who recommended them!

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any advice on what I should do?

45 profile is definately too big...
u need 215/40/17

from memory, the stock Vti-R tyres are 195/55/15's

since your guards are rolled, u might need to look into changing your tyres to 40 profile

i've got 215/40/17's dropped 2" with just the rear guards rolled and had no scraping so far even with 2 ppl in da back over speedbumps and all

i reckon u need stiffer springs... by doin that... u ll also improve handling

No rubbing on th front ???

strange then check your rear suspension sounds odd and yeah what EG2TEG said smaller typre will help. take it back to the ppl that put them on ( unless you did then thats a waste of time hehe)

running 215/35/18 dropped and never rubs on back

good luck

thanks guys for your advice!

i would probably prefer to not change my suspension or grind down any more parts of my bumper........so it looks like im going to have to change the tyres to 40 profile!

The lads at the Tyre place are happy to swap them over coz i havent put on too many kms yet! Keep you posted how it goes tomorrow!

Im going with either the TOYO Tranpath SW's in 215-40/17 or the TOYO PROXES T1-R in same size - hopefully the ride wont be too hard! With the TOYO Trampios ive got on now in 45 profile its actually quite a nice ride...not too different from my 16's with the 50 profile!

hey guys....just thought ill tack my query on the end of this thread instead of making a new one.....

....im running 195/60 wrapped on 14 inch factory alloys. my plan is to get 205(or 215)/40/ 17in rims.... but it might take a while till i get the rims...

...anyway im eventually goin to lower it but does anyone recommend against getting it lowered b4 getting the new rims....so getting it lowered on my 14's and later just changing wheels??? my main concern is the diameter of the 2 different rims would be so different that when i change the rims it will sit too high....

any advice…..should I just wait till I get the wheels and then get it lowered??…..thanks

yeh my friend was wondering the same and was told by 3 different typre and wheel places that he shuld get the wheels before he lowers it.

get the wheels then lower it coz u dont know how the new wheels will sit.once u get the wheels u can see how low u want

btw running on 215/35/19 lowered 3 1/4in' on the back and it never rubs
