Ozhonda,

I have been researching about the lack of power the FD2 K20Z engine provides it consumers and was wondering if anyone in AUS has completed a K24 Swap or even a K24 bottom end with a K20z or k20a head placed into an FD. I have seen a few vids in the US and is sorta looks like people over there are doing this Frankenstein swap daily.

I have heard about the k24/k20 built engines in some cars here like in an EG or DC2 But never found out about the price and time it would take to complete in an FD. (If only Australia was provided the FD2R I would be happy to purchase one).

Fd2 does not have a k20z engine that's why you have no power

yes it's possible, I've looked into it and spoken to a person who has done it
mechanically you need to reuse the stock sump, a CRV mount for K20/24 frank and only some FD2R headers will clear with the taller block
of course don't forget the flashpro for tuning, a DC5R oil pump is also nice to have.

haha bs engine anyway, has 11 kw more then the r18 engine and weighs 80kg more in the 'sport' chassis then the vti sedan

vti = 1210 kg (manuel)
sport = 1290kg (manuel)

and op
modproject in melbourne swaped a k20z4 (out of a fn2 type r audm) in a fd vti

Does anybody know the price for the swap too? Thanks. And the fd2 does come with the k20z, just a different one from the DC5S and FN2R.

Might have some issues with the drive by wire aswell.

Fd2 comes equipped with k20z2 and needs only basic breathing mods for a pretty good daily. Rather than spend so much on a Frankenstein swap consider a turbo setup. That's the path im going down!

K24 is a drive by wire system isn't it? And yeah ive looked at the boosted set up k20z2 turbo But Na is best :P

Thank you for summing it up 114kw is right for the AUS spec :D

I remember I had an FD2 and I wanted to put this K series frank engine made by Dr Honda. They guy selling it was helping me and said it the dive by wire would be the biggest issue and I'd be spending bucket loads. I think all the newer K24's are drive by wire. Depends which one you get.

if you were to perform a k20/k24 swap in the fd2, would you lose VSA and cruise controll?
and i pretty sure the k24a3 in the accord euro uses drive by wire.

best bet is to use a k24 out of a newer euro. firstly because it would get around the drive by wire issue and secondly, in order to have the car road legal and registered, the engine must be newer than the chassis.

just use an intake manifold with a DBW TB and you'll be fine, wont loose any feature at all.

The frankenstien swap would be too hard i reckon. If you're willing to pioneer though, please do.

IMO would be easier than running high boost.

what about getting a k20z4 head on a k20z2? is that even possible?

or a k20a head?

OR k20z4 from FN2R, + also has dbw.

and isnt the header integrated onto the block (cant be replaced) for the k24z's?

Model code for a sports is FD2. everything else is fd1. Engine is K20z something I forgot. You'll love the gearbox on these cars, I did. So easy to shift, and if you do stuff up and stall there no lurching!

dunno about the fd2 gearbox but the fd1 gearbox is a a sack of shit. it grinds second a lot...

and in america they all get 3rd gear grinds on their k20z3 boxes..
