View Full Version : My MY12 Euro

I picked up my new Euro today, here are a couple of pics. The weather was not the best so I will take some more when the weather improves.

I noticed when changing the wheels that the underbody floor pan is covered on each side by a full plastic cover. I suspect this is to improve underbody airflow, hence the slight claimed improvement in economy.

It's way too early to comment on anything yet, I have only driven it home from the Dealership, first job was changing the wheels which I had ready, I haven't driven it on the road yet with those wheels.

The pink tint on the tail lights looks good on white, probably better on red, but I think it might look silly on other colours

06-10-2011, 05:46 AM
There are no visible differences to the interior that would show up in pictures. The seat trim material is different & supposedly a dust free material, apart from that the changes are USB connectivity, bluetooth, auto on/off headlights, rain sensing wipers, switch blade key. Apparently the suspension settings have been revised & the underbody plastic shield that coves the underfloor area presumably for better airflow under the car.

Hey buddy, I thought you're not supposed to use wax/polish when the paint is still new?

buddah51au
07-10-2011, 09:48 AM
You thought wrong with imported cars mate. It takes 6 to 8 weeks for the paint to gas out, after that your ready to go. With 99.9% of imported cars mor than 8 to 10 weeks has passed since they were painted in the factory.

Add to that, most cars new cars need a good clay after transportation. Just think where they could have been - Holding yards, Rail Transport, Shipping transport, the list goes on. Therefore they usually get more industrial fallout on the way to a dealer than most other cars would in years of ownership.

Is this based on the "build date" or "Australian compliance date"?

Build date Denot. Let me add that the paintwork is almost perfect after claying the car, so I will be polishing with Menzerna FF3000 & a blue Lake County Finishing Pad so very little, if any cut is achieved. It is more to lay down a layer of polish before application of my finishing sealant.

Getting it installed at Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast. Although I am in the process of giving the car a good detail at the moment I WILL NOT be aplying any Silicon Sealant at this stage to the areas where the Ventureshield will be applied - forward of the windscreen.

Actually, they reapplied the Ventureshield to my 08 CU2 after a old woman ran into the front of it, so I have seen their workmanship.

if u had paint protection and want to wax/polish ur car, what do u use? does paint protection fade away after two years?

buddah51au
07-10-2011, 04:55 PM
Paint protection is useless after 6 months. I would recomend a clay bar to start, followed by a good quality polish, I use Menzerna, what product in their range depends on how bad the swirls/scratches are - use with either a Das 6 or Meguiars G220 Random Orbital Machine, followed by your favourite sealant - I personally like Duragloss. There are many other quality polishes & sealants available, so whatever works for you.

Maybe you need a few days on the Fraser Coast .... lol

Duragloss 601
Duragloss 605 - 2 layers, minimum 12 hours apart
Duragloiss 951 Aquawax as final wipedown

Why bother with all the creams and bars when you'll just gonna put a layer of plastic film over it? Shouldn't the film protect the paint anyway

Just a question:

Simple, i am a detailing fanatic & everything has to be 100%. Preperation of the paint under the Ventureshield will make it look better as the film is optically clear, therefore the condition of the paint will reflect the end result. Also I am only getting the Ventureshield Applied to the Bonnet, Front Guards, Bumper, Mirrors & Headlights.

For me, close enough is not good enough, but to each his own.

For cheapo detailing, would you recommend any polishes and waxes that can be applied by hand? And what do you do for the interior?

buddah51au

Denot is right, you can't even get close to a good job applying polish by hand.

I just got home from the Sunshine Coast where I had the Ventureshield PPF applied to the complete bonnet, complete front gaurds, bumper, lights & door mirrors. As expected I didn't notice any difference in driving compared to the MY08 CU2, however the handling is a lot sharper with the 18's. First trip in the car, only done around 500km total & the trip computer is reading 6.3L/100 .... not even run in yet so very happy with that.

The trip computer is reading 168kms to empty so not only does it work, there seems to be an improvement over the MY08 - MY11 model. Of the 812kms i have done 418 was highway & the remainder local city driving around Hervey Bay.

Do you have sheepskin on leather?

buddah51au
07-11-2011, 07:17 AM
You guys seem to be missing my point to a certain extent. 1 - I can't be sure how full the tank was when I took delivery. 2 - While 50% of my driving so far has been highway, the other 50% has been local driving around Hervey Bay which I don't think would be much different than city driving as it is mostly 50 or 60 K speed limits around here with all driving < 10km, so stop start driving - cold engine - not getting into top gear etc. The other thing that will take time for me to work out is the accuracy of the trip computer with 18" wheels fitted due to the slightly larger rolling diameter (we all know the reading of the trip computer is not accurate, on my previous CU2 it was out by .3 to .4 L/100). I have never been 1 to take a lot of notice of how far you can go on 1 tank - I prefer to take an average consumption over a minimum 5000km. If you look at the speedo closely in the 2nd pic on page 6 you will see 546km @ an indicated 6.4 on less than 1/2 a tank.

To answer the last question, yes I have sheepskin, but not on leather, I only have a base model. Personally I can't justify an extra 7K for the lux model with cheap leather & a hole in the roof.

I think the Kizashi awd would be a better car in this segment.

buddah51au
07-11-2011, 05:42 PM
Kizashi is a slightly smaller car & any car with a CVT auto transmission is a turn off for anyone who knows anything about transmissions. Add to that the Euro has the runs on the board & you know your spending your $$$ on a known product. The Kizashi is a new kid on the block & not a proven product. But we all have different views, wants & needs.

Fredoops

I would seriously get rid of my dc2r if they came out with a Kizashi manual AWD. (I know it exists)

The only problem with the CU2 is the "weird" feel of the steering (moving by itself even on straight, smooth road).

My wife been driving i30 since she ever can drive, and she still say the steering is funny on the CU2. But overall, she still say its a good car.

That's electric steering Denot & it seems most manufactures are heading that way to improve economy. With electric steering of any form you loose road feel, much the same as we did with the early power steering units. One can only hope that this improves over time, however the lack of feel has never caused a problem for me, even when pushing through some twisty stuff. You just get used to it.

I thought I would give an early indication on economy, it is way too early at this stage to give firm overall figures as all my previous theory's are now invalid due to the different rolling diameter of the 18" wheels. My first fill was after 803kms ( I don't believe the tank was completely filled by the dealer at delivery) so I cant vouch for the accuracy. 803kms / 57.96Lts = 7.22. That was approx 50/50 highway & local driving.

I filled with BP95 & went for a run to the Sunshine Coast today, moderate to heavy traffic in sections & hard to maintain a constant speed, but generally between 90 & 115kph. Here are 2 pics of the trip computer at this moment. I wonder how much better it would be without using A/C. Who can complain about a range of 1185 kms on 1 tank (in theory). Obviously those figures will change once local driving increases the consumption.

Curiosity got the better of me so I decided to fill up at the same pump to see what the true economy was, knowing that I can get better once the engine is run in & I go on a longer trip. the result was 523 kms / 32.18 Lts = 6.153 L/100. Better than I ever achieved from my MY08 CU2. It also indicates the trip computer is much more accurate with the 18" wheels.

My intention now is to do a comparison against local driving only.

buddah15au is there any noticeable difference in acceleration with the new wheels? They should be a lot heavier than the 17"? Or does it feel roughly the same?

Do you think the speedo is also "corrected" to give out more accurate speed with the new wheels?

buddah51au
16-11-2011, 09:04 PM
Performance feels much the same although obviously it will be a little slower, but not noticeably so. The ride is much firmer, but handling has improved. Yes, the wheels are much heavier. According to my GPS, the speedo is out by 2kph @ 100, where with the 17's it was out by 5 to 6 kph at 100. Rpm now is close to 2000 @ 100kph instead of 2200 RPM

buddah51au
17-11-2011, 04:22 PM
The lux model comes with 235/45x18, so that is what I went with on the Lux rims. I also wanted to loose some of the speedo error & I have achieved that. I couldn't see any gain or advantage using 225/45x18's, I did not even check if that size was available with a 98 load rating.

As it turned out, 235/45 was the right choice as the speedo is only 2% out at 100kph & after 1 test the trip computer is very close to being accurate, but it is way too early to be certain of that.

I saw that in carsales then came here and see there was also a link to that same car and was amazed at the price. Am in the market for a new car and was set on the VW Passat but then saw this and am now in 2 minds.

We already have a good relationship with our local Honda dealer due to purchasing two new cars from them since 2005, and they have always looked after us.

Hmm Passat for me was the winner due to its economy, better performance and room as well as just biting the bullet and give a VW a crack for a change, but the servicing on them is horrendous, which is one of the things I dont like about them.

I do love the Hondas but its just the acceleration and economy which maybe pushing me towards the Passat.

I might just toss a coin. :)

Sorry Buddah for disrupting your thread but just feel like sharing my experiences with the Euro now.

Cassius, I don't know anything about the VW Passat but I've driven the Euro Luxury for 3 years and done 105,000 kms. Just strictly between Sydney and Canberra on 1st grade road. It is a very enjoyable and comfortable car to drive. Very capable of doing 160 kph or more on the highway and still feeling very stable and under control. Not that I would recommend you do that kind of speed. Not worth losing your license :) I'm sure you know Hondas too well by now after 2 cars :)

I like a good sound system too and the Euro is build as a very quiet car in the interior and is a good base to upgrade to a very nice after market sound system. Just something I like doing, to keep driving long distances more interesting.

So when it came time to change cars, I see no reason why not Euro again especially now when the price is so competitive.

cassius,if it were my choice,I would go with the Euro.

Before getting my MY11 Euro, for 3 and a half years I had a Jetta, which was a lovely car,as it came standard with a lot of features, but it was a niggly car,and was constantly in for something to be repaired.

VWs are nototious for rattles, and this almost drove me insane,as is a reflection of poor build quality.

The biggest gripe that I had was with the dealerwho was very arrogant, and even dealing with VW themselves was not plesant.

I deceided ,after 4 new VWs,that my next car would so NOT be another, and when my Jetta was written off,I changed over to Honda.

The diffirence is day and night, far better build quality, great dealership, and very enjoyable motoring experiance.

If I had the choice all over again,I would still avoid VW like the plague, and be very happy to buy another Honda.

edit:

Just to add hows the build quality on the MY11?? have they fixed the power steering hose issue, and the power window motors that was plagued on the earlier euros?? even my VTi wasn't spared I had to fork out $500 for a ruptured power steering hose 6 months ago as the recall only affected euro owners so I had to pay out of pocket.... also had the front driver side power window failure (luckily in warranty) was replaced, as well as the central locking failed... other than that has been good...

So what's the realistic economy on the euro. I've read a couple of posts and it varies from users car to car. Some say 14l/100km which is very high. Reviews of the passat are lower than or on the mark when it comes to economy. I would be driving to work on a 100km turnaround trip in a bit of start stop traffic closer to the city.

MY12 base Euro auto right now on the promotional price is $32,290 drive away. For manual it is $29,990. This is for Milano Red only as Buddah said. For any other colours, add another $475. You can easily get tinting and Honda mats thrown in free at that price or you can negotiate for other things instead like the other gentleman who got rear sensors, mats, boot tray, etc but I didn't really push it. You have to cut the sales guy and Honda some slack. It is Christmas after all :)

Yep this promotional offer is till the end of the year but who knows they might or might not extend it. I was told till stocks run out. The next container load in would be a different price.

I'm doing about 7.9 to 8 litres / 100 kms on mainly highway driving. Don't know much about city driving :)

My current 2009 model Euro luxury is problem free touch wood :) Yeah seriously had no issues since new for 3 years and 105,000 kms of driving. They even did a software upgrade to fix the so called engine pinging problem during one of the routine service. I didn't think I had the pinging problem at all but they did the upgrade nevertheless and I didn't noticed any different after that. Had a change of 4 tyres since. At 105,000 kms the brakes still didn't need changing because all I do is highway driving mostly lol. Now that's good economy.

I think it's depend on the situation... When I was looking at a demo CU2 (back on 2008) one of the car has 1500km on it the salesman said between 50-2000 is a demo, above that is used and below is new. But when I bought my CU2 new, the salesmen said if its under 100 then its new.

My 08 cu2 had 25km, while my MY12 had 54km. Several factors come into it such as haveing non genuine accessories such as window tint installed - how far is it from the dealer to the 3rd party workshop.

Mine had 11kms on it when I picked it up after it had the accessories fitted and tinting done.

Over 50kms would be a reasons for me to not sign the delivery/inspection paperwork when picking it up without asking for more accessories.

Obviously it wasn't 18km each way to the window tinter in your case. In country towns you sometimes need to travel further to get some things done.

I get that and this is a reason that the car should have been transported on a truck.

I think that dealers taking the cheap and easy option to drive a car around which they are selling as 'new' should be giving better deals or more accessories. Dealers would probably argue against that and that wouldn't surprise me as they are only about money. Where's the customer service I ask you?

You should have got free tinting for the inconvenience.

I drive a harder bargain than you, I got free tinting, fog lights & floor mats, an exceptional deal in my view.

Changeover figure from 08 CU2 to MY12 with above accessories was $12,500, so i spent 500 more than I wanted, But got accessories with a retail value of around $1,500 included.

I always thought it was possible in the right circumstances, I finally got 1000km on 1 tank of fuel.

Amazing...! Is that on a tank of Caltex Vortex 95?

buddah51au
26-12-2011, 06:16 AM
Vortex 98, but there was no noticable difference between that & BP95. Actually the BP95 gave better fuel consumption which is hard to believe.

My last 2 tanks -

BP 95 - 983kms / 64.06L = 6.52L/100

Vortex 98 - 1002kms / 66.05L = 6.6L/100

I always believe there are slight variables when filling at different service stations, Also I question if the different pumps give the exact same measurments of fuel distributed.

While on the topic of fuel, I just noticed the United outlet in my city has just started selling/advertising 100 octane fuel. Never seen this before. Anyone tried it yet and notice any better mileage again. They're selling it for 157.6 here.

Hi guys,

I've got an Accord Euro MY12 but the gear changes are not smooth in the car.
Does anyone experience this same issue?

A friend of mine drove by in a Honda Jazz and I had a drive in that. It felt like it had only one gear. The gear change was that smooth.

I've had this problem from the day I bought the car.

Don.

I had no problems with rough gear changes on my 3 years old Euro Luxury neither did I have any problems with my new MY12 base Euro manual which by the way is butter smooth and I think sale of the century :)

I paid $29990 for a base Euro manual MY12 model in Graphite Lustre - a change of colour from my original intended white or silver.
These are the accessories that came with it :-

Tinting
Factory floor mats
Fog lights
Manual sports pedal
Accent lighting
No extra charge for metallic paint
Full tank of petrol

I'm holidaying in Melbourne now having driven from Sydney.
I had the car bra on :)
Being the 2nd Euro I've owned in 3 years I have to say it is still a very nice car to drive and value quality for money.

I've got a Luxury automatic.

I've kind of regret getting an automatic 'cause I've driving manual all my life and then I changed to automatic and I'm not enjoying the transmission at all.

The transmission is quite slow to respond and sometimes it feels quite heavy like a diesel engine. Most of the time I end up manually changing down the gears which defeats the whole automatic purpose. I should have just got the manual. I've also read that the manual has more punch.

Anybody else who has had problems with gear changing on an automatic?

Wishful thinking... My Euro is in its 8th year. A local planning Minister murdered my finances three years ago. In any case, after a year of driving a loaned V6 car, I've become addicted to the grunt that the Euro has not. If the next Euro comes with a V6, then maybe. Otherwise, the new Accord is due in the last quarter of 2012 and it might even look nicer than the current blob. We'll get a hint at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2012 when the coupe version is previewed.

Buddah, I noticed that you have only the rear mud guard on your euro.
Any particular reason for that?
With the increasing rain fall in Brissie, I'm about to order a mud guard set from my dealer for $149 not-fitted.
Is it easy to DIY?

I needed to wait for the installation of the ventureshield clear bra before I fitted the front ones, they are now on the car.

It is a very easy DIY, just use 3 existing screws at the rear, on the front 2 screws go through the plastic retaining lugs, re use the inner screw

Sorry to hijack your thread buddah, I just need to get an idea on what has happened to my bonnet and how to remove this marks.
I was driving to Ipswich yesterday and it was raining a bit on my way back to Brisbane and I found these spots covering my bonnet and roof this afternoon. I used water and cloth to dab the spots but they have seem to cut through the duragloss sealant or worst the clear paint.

Does anyone know what cause this and what should I use to remove it..?

I'm panicking..!! So any help will be appreciatedz

Cheers...

02-02-2012, 11:42 PM
That's a negative. I always watch where I parked, no trees or powerline.
I gave it a good wash after work this arvo and it's now almost gone after I use turtle wax bug and tar remover but I can still feel that the duragloss sealant are gone when you glide your fingers over the bonnet where the spots were.
Does anyone know if I need to remove the sealant before applying another layer or sealant?

buddah51au
04-02-2012, 11:25 AM
Turtle wax bug & tar remover will remove some sealant, just re apply. What car wash do you use? You need a good quality one.

Those spots could be anything from bird droppings, tree sap, acid rain, etc.

I use the duragloss concentrate from carcareproducts.
What should I use to remove the remaining sealant before reapplying buddah?
I haven't got a random orbital since it is quite expensive...

buddah51au
04-02-2012, 08:32 PM
I don't think it is that long since you applied the sealant, so I would just go over the car again. I always apply 2 layers of sealant to start, but re apply a few months later if required. I also use duragloss concentrate.

So I just need to wash, clay bar then reapply the 111 without the 601?
