Currently own an EG5 @ 210000KM, checked the dip-stick and it was really black oil. So tomorrow I'm deciding to service my car myself. I've got some questions.
1. Where's a good place around the Cabramatta/Liverpool area to get discounted prices on Engine Oil? Looking to spend around $20 or cheaper on commonly known oils.
2. Can anyone suggest which brand and type of engine oil for my car that fits in with my budget?
2. What Engine Oil rating should I get for my engine? 15w or 20w?
3. How much are Oil Filters? Just looking for a cheap one that does the job.
Thanks!

maybe use google to search for places around your area. Alot of shops will sell engine oil. Repco, Supercheap, Autobarn etc
$20 or cheaper? dude... just get castrol or shell or something it wont be expensive. who cares if its a little more money. If your looking at spending $20 thats a little stingy for your car.
get 10w 40
get a ryco oil filter, they cost around $11.

Yeah all auto places would sell oil, look for sales etc as stated above. Also, I wouldn't recommend 10W-40, would suggest either 15W-40 or even 20W-XX, otherwise you might find that you'll be topping up your oil more frequently. I own a Si aswell, tried 10W-40 and found that I was losing way too much oil (no leaks) so I jumped to 15W-40 and it seems to be alright. As for filters, Ryco, or even the Repco ones. Go for around 10-15 bucks.

if you car is lossing oil, that's mean it's burning oil, could be piston rings or valve seals. So it's better to use thick oil depend on the engine mileage. 200km + use 15-40 if loosing oil use 20w-40 20w-50. Or thinner oil with addictive

Yeah did my research on it, when i say losing oil i dont mean bucket loads. Its just normal burning i guess from an old car, mines got 178k kms, and when i switched to 15W-40 i found that i was topping up less.

Just get 5L of Castrol Magnatec 10W-40. It's about $30. Filter $15 or thereabouts. Don't cheap out on your oil and filter dude. You can save a lot of money with a DIY service but don't be stupid.

Just bought Castol GTX 15w-40 today cost me $25 though didn't buy an oil filter. I'm really short on cash at the moment cause I only have $100 in total to spend on oil and a new battery though have not found a decent battery that fits with my budget yet. The Century 350CCA was $150 which I found too much and not right. Anyone know where I can get a new battery for good prices?

Thanks, do you know which wreckers around my area? Are te batteries from wreckers usually in decent useable condition? What should I look and look out for when buying them from the wreckers? Will they test the battery to show me it's in alright condition before I buy it?

Well maybe the answers you gave me didn't help to me. Yes I know I can use Google and look for wreckers around my area. But that is not what I asked.
Just read the question I asked properly 3-4 comments above. If you can't provide me the answers I need to know then no need to comment in my thread. Go find some other thread to get your post count at. No need to call people dumb if they asking questions on forum, that is what forums are for. Other people are atleast tryin to answer my questions without being all cocky and smart. You just need something better to do than trying to be a hero on a forum man.

testing the battery is your job. there not going to send someone to help you take out a battery. bring a spanner or something that can conduct electricity, touch the two end and if it sparks it works... you car will charge the battery after that. wreckers dont give two shits if what you bought something electrical that does not work.

If you bought Coles oil you would have money left over for a semi-decent brand new battery.

On the other hand, as I was buying my engine oil from Supercheap Auto, I also got a free battery test and looked around at some batteries. The guy who tested my battery said the battery needs replacing. Alternator was fine. No drains.
He said to me the same battery that I have now (Century 300-325CCA), but a new one would cost me $150. Which I thought was over-priced for only a 320CCA. - does anyone know a better place with a better price to get new batteries from?
