hi all,

i have been looking up information about turbo kits and cutom kits for my civic. It seems that the most common failure is the rings and the ringlands on stock pistons that die first, even with good tunes.

My question is what causes them to break?? is it the pressure? is it the heat?
what can be done other than replacing the pistons to prevent it?

yeah, have u stuff tuned well, especially when running at the limits of ur engine. Always run good petrol, keep away from long boosts in high gears.. Definatly a lesson learnt!!

ok so its just a matter of getting a good "slightly rich" tune to be safe then
and no boosting in high gears?

You should be able to get away with boosting in high gears, not that you should be doing this on the street. But in the event that you do decide to do that or take your car on a track just dont boost for prelonged periods of time (e.g dont go for top speed runs on a 40 degree day 5 times a day)
