Hey All,

I'm currently hunting for some mags and i understand that cos i have 14's stock i can only legally go to 16's for my gsi. Is this true in SA or is there any way i can run 17's legally or will this be defectable, as i dont want to spend $2000 only to find i get defected.

Some places have said they will put 17's on it and others have said 16's is as big as i can go. Also i dont really want to get the guards rolled if i dont have to.

Basically i know 17's will look better and are the same price as most 16's but i just dont want to get defected for them. Also will i get a better ride comfort from 16's?

Cheers all,

Flavzz

i had the same troubles your having and yes it is defectable to have 17s so i guess its really up to you if you wanna take the risk of getting defected and/or voiding insurance for having an 'unroadworthy' car if you have an accident.

if your coming to the dyno day my gsi has 16s on it so you can have a look

Concerning legality, contact your local RTA and get the facts right!
Don't forget to go by your insurer, if you're concerned with that, as well.

I'd go 16s. But, it's your car, your money.

Good luck with it.

Haha nice one, now stop spamming the thread. I have 17's on my gsi, I did not buy them new and the offer was too hard to not take. The ride is quite harsh but not too bad. If you are after performance I would suggest lightweight 15's or 16's. Otherwise looks go the 17's. I was told up here in QLD that 17's were legal on my gsi (by the tyre guy that fitted em) however he may be wrong.

i have a 96 vti-r and i have 17's on her and they look a treat!!!! the ride is not too bad at stock ride height but is a lil rough when ur car is dumped like mine is!!

i cruise the gold coast every weekend and have never been defected for them and i was pulled over not so long ago and my wheels where checked and they were fine!! But thats in QLD!!

and if the cops really wanna defect u they will defect u for nething!!! what they say goes in this world!!!

So im sayin go 17's!!! they look hot as!!!

hope that helps a lil bit

honestly, i'd go the 17's.. juz keep ur stockies nearby, coz if u have a crash or what not.. chuck them back on so u still got insurance.. n if u get defected, u can juz switch them, then when u come back from d rta, switch back to the 17's.. but its not very likely the cop wid defect a chick.. hes more likely to pull us guys over.. ive got 16's on my LS now, n they r too small.. im sellin them n get 17's.. coz i want a kit, and the 16's will look like 10's with the kit.. my advice is the 17's, but at the end of the day, its ur $$$ and what you want

CHeers all,

I'm thinking lightwieght 16's at the moment and i've already gotten a quote on the buddy club p1's at $1800 just for the mags.... which means more like two and a half g's for tyres as well.... thats a little on the high side,

but they would be sweet as.......
