Hey guys.. My EK4's timing belt sounds like its running against something that makes it squeak.. This happens every time when i start the engine (when its cool) sometimes it goes on for 5 secs or so..

Please help if you've been through this and what I should do to fix it.

Cheers

doesn't sound like a timing belt, its most likely your drive belt has lost its tension and is starting to slip. check to see if there's any cracks on the drive belt, in and out.

Yeah def sounds like fan belt. When fan belts are on their way out they usually squeal when its cold.. so time to get that replacement!

could it possibly be the alternator belt? is that what you mean?

When my alternator belt(serpentine belt) was dieing it had disintegrated 4 rib lines and only had like 2 left on. Because I left it too long before replacing.
Edit: Fan belt/altenator all the same

It could be a bad water pump quality. Have it checked by a mechanic.Check the water pump first. If this is not a problem, it sounds like your belt is worn and stretched and needs a new one.

do you have EK4 ( DOHC ) VTiR or EK1 CXi, VTi SOHC

there is a known issue with SOHC EK when changing the belt

One of your drive belts needs retentioning either the power steering, air con or alternator.
Who ever changed your timing belt must not have retentioned them correctly.
