View Full Version : How can I make my stock wheels more aggressive?

I'm a bit tired of my stock wheels but can't afford new ones yet then realized it was quite easy to paint respray them instead. So figured it'd be great if I could make them appear a bit more aggressive in the mean time, nothing over the top just to fill the guards a bit more. Can anyone recommend something I'll be able to use to achieve that?

i dont get it... how is respraying your wheels going "to fill the guards abit more"?
colour suggestions are black since it goes with pretty much anything or other more common colours like grey.
if you go balls find you car general car colour on a colour wheel and on the diretly opposite side is the colour(s) you want. e.g if you look at a colour wheel my car is purple on the opposite side of purple is usually orange in most cases and sometimes green in other colour wheels. this is for that contrasting look that actually suits the car (in some peoples eyes atleast lol)

probably totally mind ****ed you with my shitty description

....... I'm not painting them to make them more aggressive, I'm painting them because I'm bored of the stock colour. By aggressive I mean in terms of using wheel spacers to make my wheels appear wider, eg; fill the guard more.
So instead of spending a heap of $$ on black wheels with a lower offset I figured I could paint my stock wheels and use spacers to give the wheels a wider stance.

hub centric spacers are the go, but to even tryn get that aggressive look, ur gonna be looking for atleast +30mm or +50mm spacers, and those alone, hub centric ones are still costing over 300 for a pair, so there is no cheap and safe way to really go about it unless u fork out money

50mm? wtf..

Stock wheels dont usually accommodate for bolt on spacers. Try some 5mm slip ons with 205 tyres. Should make it look a bit nicer

What about 20mm spacers, how would they sit? Found them for $139 custom made - have all sizes it seems

Get a ruler and measure 20mm straight put from your wheel/Tyre

That's where they'd sit with 20mm spacers.

Cool, thanks :D Is it best to put them on with that anti-seize stuff? I saw a tutorial clip of a guy putting some on spacers and he put it on each bolt end to avoid the spacers seizing to the wheel I think.
Now just have to make sure the wheel won't rub.

have a look at the back of the rim.

if it is totally flat like this

http://www.minisport.com.au/images/sonic_back.jpg

It wont work.

it needs to have reliefs in it like so

To allow for the stock wheel studs.

And yes, you should apply antiseize on all studs.

What are reliefs? So reliefs + spacer = wider looking wheels?

most aftermarket wheels like rays and weds have those reliefs, as its common practice to run spacers to achieve better track width on circuits or drags.

I cant remember if oem wheels did have them or not.... but im pretty sure they would, correct if im wrong....

But alot of cheap rims like Bob jane are simple flat surface due to pricing, u pay for what u get for.

U can get spacers to fit them, but u need fat spacers to clear the stud length and nut to fit rims with no reliefs

Just because I see the difference doesn't mean I know why I need to have them...

I haven't taken my wheels off to check yet but even genuine factory Honda Integra wheels? Where do I find reliefs? Thanks!

That's a bad pic of a sppacer coz its thick.

if you get a thin space, like say 20mm, you bolt it on, and sometimes 5mm or more of the stock wheel stud will actually extend past the face of the spacer.

So if you try to fit a wheel with a flat mounting face, the studs hit it, and wont let it sit on properly.

The releifs allow the studs to sit freely so the wheel will go on.

Ya dig?

i get what u mean lol, but im saying with thick spacers +30mm or more, u can mount spacers on a rim with no relief, but yes with a 20mm, no chance of that happening....

Cover them in cow blood.

The high iron content may cause premature rust on your brake calipers but totally looks more aggressive.
