Hello all
I am new on this forum. I have a 2008 Civic FD1 auto.
I have started to notice my civic seems to lag when I press down the gas pedal.
It is like the engine starts to Rev for about 0.2sec then you feel the power going to transmission and wheels. there is a small delay in between.
is this normal? has anyone else experienced the same?
I know this feeling because I have owned a honda Jazz CVT before and the Jazz did even more of this - Rev first then a big delay to transmission&wheels mostly from standing still (dangerous sometimes especially at intersections). Feels like a big clutch slipping. I thought it was only limited to CVT but similar feeling also on auto civic?
thanks guys

its because of the Drive By Wire system of the throttle on the civic. its designed for fuel economy and to reduce emissions etcetc. So basically, there's nothing wrong with your car. It is normal, however if u want to get rid of this lag u can just buy a pivot throttle controller or the shadow one.. and that will send codes to ur ecu and amplify the amount of acceleration you put down... therefore reducing the lag =].
hope that helps... a lot of people hate that on the civics, especially on an auto

Thanks for the reply black8thgen
I do understand DBW gives lag - but does it purposefully Rev the engine a bit ?
many people has described "nothing happens" briefly - but i have notice the engine does Rev a bit with mine
I would have thought by the time engine revs - the DBW has already got the message..
it feels like the gear is not engaging properly coz the power of engine is delayed to transmission and wheels....
maybe that's just how it is?

Maybe ur car is heavy? Lol. Nah If you reckon it's more than DBW lag ask your mechanic ti check it out?

Is this from a stop or whilst in motion?

rev the engine a bit? Sounds like it's changing gears lol..
or ur clutch/torque converter/gearbox is farked

Or maybe its in motion and when he presses the accelerater too hard, its downshifting then responding lol

it is more pronounced in stop or slow speeds. higher speeds not so obvious
cant be gear changing coz it happens in stop or slow speeds ie still on 1st gear
feels the clutch slow to engage

Hi all,
I'm experiencing exactly same issue with my FD recently. i start to monitor this issue for weeks and i get a pattern when the problem occur. yes, it will be very obvious when my car comes to a stop (red traffic light) or slow moving speed (20-30 km/h). i noticed i will not encounter this early in the morning when i used to drive to work. it will be obvious if i drive for a longer period (>30mins) and the weather is hotter. eg, traffic jam >1hr. i check my engine temperature nothing unusual, no engine amber light, nothing. this thing start to make me hate my FD and really hope that i could find out what's the solution for this.

uhm i always encounter this problem dude... i dont think urs is the throttle lag at al as it should always be there and not after a long period of drivingl.. but if it helps, people have used a throttle controller to fix the problem

My FD is reaching 75k for mileage and so far i nvr encounter this problem b4. Only recently. I used to googled around and some ppl advice it could be due to TPS is failing off. Any1 try replacing the tps and is the prolem resolve?

After a while i just think its probably always been there and i just noticed more when i started paying attention to it. Now i just make sure that i step harder on the pedal when i want some oomph. Throttle controller would be nice but i cant justify 300-400 price tag for just that!
I now have put in a k&n drop in airfilter i must say it has made quite a difference in terms of low down torque and response
Next thing i am thinking about is wether to remove the resonator or find someway to shorten the stock air intake..

I've been using K&N drop in filter for the pass years n the performance is gd. Only recently my throttle seems to be not responsive. But my problem only obvious when i drive for >30mins. I will get my mechanic to check on the TPS sensor n cable. Most probably i will not hesitate to replace it if any sign of worn off. Btw, im using pivot raisin throttle control oso.

there is one that is an exact lookalike to teh pivot e-throttle going under the brandname 'shadow'
I have one, and it's fine, just saying to support quality as preferred to copies.

unplug the accelerator signal cable and plug that box in between, then find a place to mount it?

A plug into the OBD port, an adapter plug into the plug ontop of the accelerator pedal, and then tuck the wiring away.

I finally got D1 Spec throttle controller. cheapest one i could find.
was quite a bitch to install on FD - the accelerator cable you need to plug into is hidden quite inside
very nice mod. put it on sport mode all the sudden the car feels quite peppy. lots of oomph when u need it.
I know the power is no different, but it just feels much better. the car goes when you need it, no more lazy engine response
I find sport 2 is enough for me.

ok i've had fun with this little mod for about a month.
now i wanna sell it.
Reason : I just cant get over the paranoid feeling that, if I am involved in a major accident, my comprehensive insurance would not cover my car due to that little mod
I know it's unlikely, and say if you do get involved in a little accident. Just take the mod off and bring it in for repairers. they won't even know.
But still.
Anyone keen for a 2nd hand D1 spec throttle controller that's only been used for a month?
