View Full Version : 19" wheels on CL9

Hey guys
Just a quick question. Has anyone here fitted 19x8.5 wheels (or similiar) on a CL9? I heard going from 16" stockies to 19's (235/35/19) will have a huge downgrade in performance, handling and fuel economy.
Has anybody got any experience with this before? How noticeable is the difference?
I'd hate to drive out of a tyre shop and regret my decision straight away
Thanks!! =)

You will need a low offset to clear your struts you will need guards rolled. Yer it will downgrade performance, howevwer i assume the reasin your getting them is for looks and not performance

I got 19s x 8.5 its perfect to tell you the truth. Still, i get about 600ks on a full tank. It looks amazing and for performance wise its great to tell you the truth. Still quick and for handling don't get cheap tyres..

y.vtech

The breyton wheels i got are about 4200 with the tyres i got but i got them for a third of the price. If your going to spend that much you might aswell get works or rays.

Are you able to be insured for having 19's/20's on a euro? i thought 2inch over stock which is 16 for me is the max anything over is illegal.
i want to see the wheels on the car.. any pics?

yea thats correct. i was told that if u go a bigger rim u can get a lower profile tire to keep it in that 2inch bigger then stock measurement. if you go into your local tire shop and tell them im sure they will help you out with getting the correct rim/tire combo to stick in the 2inch measurement
Currently have them off but i did get some pics when they were on... (yes needs lows)

Here's mine on 19's.
Old 19x8 +38 all round:

Current 19x8.5 +35 all round:

Got the rims cheap off a mate (Axis Milano) & I'm fine with the car's performance/driveability (have a weekend performance car & bike) so please don't bother telling me to get 5kg $4000 JDM rims please (unless you're willing to fund them....lol). Thinking to paint the spokes/barrel pearl white & give it more low. This is my ride height goal:
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e395/fudgieness/Accord%20Euro%20CL9/TSXStance.jpg
^ that's 19x8 +32.
Should note I had my rear's rolled by PhilB as I had some minor rubbing. All fine now. Will get F+R camber kit when lowering the stance in future.
haha dont worry i got my wheels and tyres very very very cheap! dont see the point in spending thousands... Did you manage to get them insured?
MR2QIK
14-02-2012, 12:09 PM
Yes. Declared with my insurer. IMO, as long as you're sensible (aren't going epic wide/diameter) & always have good tyres (ie no wires etc), they'll be reasonable in an unfortunate incident.
well i currently got 225/35/20 Achilles ATR Sport low profiles... ill give them a ring today and see what they say i guess!
MR2QIK
14-02-2012, 12:30 PM
Goodluck. Would depend on the insurer too I guess.
Just got off the phone with aami and i was told they are illegal pretty much i cant see how you could get them insured...
MR2QIK
14-02-2012, 01:07 PM
As I said, depends on the insurer. Technically, they don't have to insure them if they're not compliant, but as I said, some are reasonable like that. I'm with Shannons & had no issue doing so with Justcar (yes, underwritten by AAMI, but they operate differently).
might have to change insurer then until then just ride around with the 17's or try not to be the cause of an accident!
MR2QIK
14-02-2012, 01:19 PM
Honestly, I wouldn't be so worried in your shoes (would keep the rims on). If you're doing something stupid to cause an accident, they'll use another reason (not your rims) against you. If you're not @ fault, they're usually quite reasonable (since they're getting a nice excess off you). But yes, might be worth considering another insurer.
keep the old ones incase i need to make a quick switch one day haha

photos shit, and cars dirty but yeh their my 19's, havnt had a problem with them but if i could go back i would choose a completely dif style haha hate them now and probs go for 17-18's, dont worry too much for performance... we live in Australia dont need it unless of course your gonna track it heaps

^ yeah I asked you that same question on another thread (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?154712-Tinted-Euro-tail-lights&p=3242901#post3242901) :) what sort of suspension are you running? I think the rear is sitting at a perfect height, no gap at all, yet not too much tucking.
U boys coming to the Sydney EURO meet on the 26th?

not sure if you boys are asking me, but i have pedders Xtreme coilovers front and back, deffs worth the money love them but shop around and you can get some quality with just dif brand for alot cheaper
ill try and find a pic somewhere on my phone because i recently re lowered the front

15-02-2012, 07:04 PM
found these two on my phone, first one has a full car so is slightly lower then usual but the other one isnt the best photo for my front hieght but you can get a rough estimate of where it sits, slightly higher at the front but is still fairly low

front i had heaps of rubbing then i got my front guards rolled, now i have no problems what so ever, my back guards are not rolled but only have issues when i have 3 at the back so its not worth rolling them, love this height to be honest, have no problems with it but the back wheels are cambered abit but im still going with these current tyres and have had them 10,000+ km

Nice dandrinan. Is that as low as the BC's would go, or was there more in it? Tossing up with coilovers to get, leaning towards, BC, Tanabe or Tein Basic/SS.
Nice dandrinan, looks similar to my euro except im still at stock height and running 20's... Did you need to get your guards rolled nothing to stressful? and did you have to buy a rear camber kit aswell before lowering?

i know this question wasnt directed at me, but i rolled my front guards after lowering my car, and it has to be done! just way too much scrubbing if you dont, but back guards are not rolled tho and to be honest euros with a bit of back camber look hot, but thats just my oppinion...
plus if there ever was a night meet ide defs come too as i also work weekends lol :)
dandrinan
20-02-2012, 05:09 PM
Nah MR2QIK, they go heaps lower than that but any lower and without a camber kit it would be undrivable. I had it tucking rim on the stock 17's in the rear and half the tyre at the front before I got those wheels but I couldn't get into my driveway haha.
Thor, I haven't gotten my guards rolled yet but I had previously tried a set of 20x8.5's and had issues fitting them properly at the height I wanted. The rear guards are alright but the front ones I had to persuade to stop the rubbing :)
white_ep3_civic

Would roll guards to make sure they clear and get a rear camber kit. I had 20's on mine and they still scrubbed with a full car load and the car wasn't that low.

Start time is 7pm finish time is around 3:30pm. So any where around or after those times u will probably noticed just infront of Royal womens/Royal melbourne/ Melb Uni etc.
wont be too much noise next 2 days driving an astra while my euros in the shop haha
I dont't whink putting on a set of 19'' s will make your car go faster or look nicer ( personal opinion), 18'' is the maximum size for a CL9 I would consider

Just about to fit 19 x 9(f) 19 x 9.5 (r) +38 on mine... trial fitted them a while ago and i couldnt back out of the driveway without scrubbing so had to roll the guards and now waiting for camber kit to be installed. Its personal preference but I love the look of 19s.
