This is my first car and I have only been driving it around for a few months. I have noticed that when I accelerate the rpm picks up and keeps going before the speed will pick up.

I thought I may have had a problem with my gearbox but I found something on the net that said 1995 civic vti's came from factory with cvts, which would explain exactly why my gearbox is revving heaps before picking up power.

I have been looking for a credible source but I have only been able to find this info on websites that I am not real sure if I trust.

So my question is does anybody know if I have a cvt... or is my trans stuffed like I first thought?

you do not have a CVT, CVT was intriduced in 1996 EK Civic, your 1995 VTi will be an EG

if your fluid level is OK and your fluid is not burnt ( dark brown in colour ) then your trans clutches are rooted. start saving for a change over trans.

John, seems like EK civics are released a year earlier in Japan.

Another guy in US moved to Japan and bought a Vtir EK and the year was '95.
In bubble-o-bill's introduction thread, he mentioned that his car is an import model.

Under the hood it has a plate that says Aug '95 EK1

JHMEK1 are also the first few digits of the vin number.

So does this mean I am right in presuming that my car has a cvt?

Get the transmission code, either off the box itself, or off the build plate, and Google it. That will tell you.

OK so you do have a EK

you still want to confirm its a CVT or 4SPD

you should get a loud whine in revers if its a CVT

if it is CVT then the operation you described is normal.
