Best is a little hard but if you explain what you need/want from the tyre it can help narrow it down

205/45 is a common size for 16x7 and fits nicely

If you want a bit more comfort you could go 205/50 being a higher profile

or for a stretched look but harsher ride 195/45

for a fd you should AT LEAST get a set of 17inch instead of 16.

have a look in this thread and see which wheel and height combo you wana go for.

whats your intention with the car, do ya plan a track day or 2 ?, what sort of kms will ya do a year. I went threw your dilema 4 months ago, with my VTi and ended up with some RP01 16x7 and a set of 205/50 Federal RSR, this rubber is sticky and loves the track. There is a trade off as Im expecting only 30,000 out of them.

17s will look good thou. First mod you should do is replace the rear sway bar.

What is your budget? Do you want best in terms of size or best in terms of grip? You can get best grip for about AU$1200

If you are running 16x7 then best tyre size for you would probably be 205/55/16. If you want a 'nice' look then you should be looking for 17 inch atleast, 16 inch is 4WD look.

Currently running Hankook RS2's on my 16x8.5 Buddy P1's, 205/50/16, which I also ran on my 16x8 gram light 57s'. Feels better than my stock 17's running 215/40/17 Bridgestone re001's, also feels better than the 215/45/17 yoko S drives I have on my regamasters. Steering is much lighter, ride is slightly more comfortable.

Nice and grippy in the dry, not noisy, in the wet they're okay. Only bad point would be the wear, they're quite a soft compound. I think I'd get maybe 30,000km out of them, hard driving? Great tyre for the price though.

Not 100% sure if anywhere still stocks them. But tirerack.com sells the newer version RS3's...

205/45R16 suits it best imo

but as others said, 205/50R16 or even 205/55R16 for better comfort

but if u have a big gap, get bigger profile to fill up some of that gap

It sits perfectly flush against the rim, so it gives it some amount of good side wall flex under load

i've got 205/45 on the daily. does the job and i think is optimal for the 16s

The FD1 uses 205/55 R16 as stock. So either stick to that size or go 225/50 R16. The other combinations recommended here will throw your speedometer reading off. Their cars are not even FD1's.

^ yep exactly, you want to be keeping the overall diameter close to stock as aaron said so 205/55/16 is recommended. And as I said earlier 17 inch wheels will give you a 'nice' look where you can go 215/45/17 to get that 'sports' car look.

Remember guys this is for an FD1, people recommending 205/45/16 that is far too small.

You can use this to measure what tyre size you require which is straight forward
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

After that we may be able to recommend you brand of tyres depending on your budget.

Hi guys! Newbie here.

215/45/17 is the stock of the sports one, with a 17 x 7 wheels. I reckon, FDBenni's suggestion is alright for an FD1.

Anyway, I recently changed the wheels and tyres on my FD1, and got it from Bob Jane... they recommended a 205/40/17... Any thoughts?

it will work by why? that size is far too small, unless your going for some epic stretch there's no need.

225/45/17 is the nearest overall diameter from the stock 205/55/16..
