Great story in today's Daily Telegraph (Thursday October 27th) about a Survey on Helmets and how much protection they offer the wearer:

Check it out before buying your next helmet, for either track days or general riding around on your bike.

Further info provided on the IPRANSW forum:
"All good, as long as you realize that no Motor Cycle Helmet is suitable for car use [Motorsport] if it has an M2000 / M2005 / M2010 Specification sticker/tag. As the CAMS Manual states... this Spec is for Supercarts only [or Motor Cycles]
Motor Cycle helmets lack a Fire Proof lining, or aren't legally required to be fireproof. Just because the Helmet has a red "AS 1698/5 tick" sticker attached does not signify its approval for car use...the M2000 tag overrides that. Obviously, all the other US/British /Euro Spec tags are CAMS acceptable as well for car use.
Also a silver AS1698 sticker[with no ticks] won't pass either....they are fakes."

So which Australian Standard does the helmet have to have in order to be suitable for car use? We currently just use bike helmets with the AS1698 5-tick sticker.

I agree.. When buying a helmet ask yourself, do you have a $200 head or a $2000 head.
