Hey guys as you may notice this is my very first post on the forums. I never really had to post anything up until this point. I have been having issues with car recently, one morning whilst driving to work my head unit my sound system along with my head unit cut out. I did think of it as much of an issue as i assumed the cabling might have come loose over time or a blown fuse.

The weird thing is i could eject and insert CDs however there would be no display in the head unit. And it was only until a day or two after whilst driving in the night did i realise the lights behind my speedometer also failed. I have to be honest with you guys i did play with the wiring a bit behind the head unit so im not too sure if i caused the dimmer switch to fail or if they were related to one another.

The headunit i have is a sony xplode xav-w1 (from previous owner), i have checked all fuses and all seem to be fine. I have also removed the cluster and the bulbs were also fine. All other lights are working except the speedometer and tacho/fuel.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I would say you grounded the illumination wire at the back of head unit. Either the wire was not connected properly or not insulated if not being used.
Look for a red with black wire behind the head unit and connect it properly or cover with insulation tape.

Then go to under dash and replace the fuse. Should be a 7.5A or 10A one.
