why is it so hard to find a clean em1 for the right price?? it seems like everyones either asking too much or they sell too quickly. does anyone know how many there are in australia and roughly how much they're worth?

mugen_ctr
30-10-2011, 06:21 PM
cause they aint exactly a common main stream coupe like bmw's or nissans. As far as sales go, id say not many sold here, which is one of the reasons why they dropped the coupe in 2000.

pricing would be from anywhere of 8k - 12k depending of pricing, but at the end of the day the seller will always tryn justify his/her pricing vs what the buyer thinks what its worth, all about coming to an agreement

wt's yr right price then?
if i m getting a car again i dont mind paying an extra grand for ones in better condition
ppl sells their car cheaper than avg for reasons
end up u need to spend more $$ on the cheaper ones than the decent ones
eg. minor fixes, finding missing interior bits etc
sure there r cheap deals but those chances are taken by the owners close frds, not you or me
for a decent EM1 u need to hv abt 11k intial budget
including rego, transfer fees, a full service and shits
just my 2cent

My price range is around 8 or 9 k and I've been speaking to people selling and it seems like ive got enough its just so frustrating to see one sell because I know another one might not come along for ages

Is this your yellow ek? How long did it take you to find what you wanted?

Is this your yellow ek? How long did it take you to find what you wanted?
Took me like 2 months to find the right ek for me. I was randomly looking on carsales one day and found the limited indy 300 civic and always wanted a yellow ek but i know ek's in Australia weren't offered the ek9 yellow stock from factory and indy 300 civics were the only thing sold in Australia with the phoenix yellow from factory. I was only lucky to get this because the ad was only put up a 1 day up before and the owner already had a few calls. Its fun when you drive cxi around and people think its a ek9 ;D

Back onto the topic, where are you looking at for em1s? Have you tried like ebay or gumtree ? or sometimes typing the car model into google and take you to some ads you won't usually see. hope it helps

what do u consider a clean em1? 1 that has low kms or 1 that may have high km's but a clean engine? i personally dont think 8-9k is enough for a clean, low km em1. i personally bought a em1 about a month ago, after searching for about 2months for a lil over 10k, mind u it had only 107000 km's on the clock and log books 2 back it up. it was a white 1 that was completely stock, dunno if u saw it on car sales or not. personally i think maybe consider findin a clean ek4 as there usualy cheaper then em1, same engine n all tho

you want tip top EM1 for god price, it's certainly do able.

Just have to wait till the perfect deal comes along, keep waiting, good luck.

Don't want to wait, pay more, don't want a shit one, pay more.

want to look for a good one, but don't want to do much leg work.....

31-10-2011, 01:19 PM
Just wait until a stock, clean one comes on carsales.. with the owner under valuing it due too not knowing much about the rarity of 99' - 00'' Coupes

OP keep looking, if u keep high standards, it will make things even harder, average kms is around 100,000 - 150,000kms, so long as the engine is healthy and the paint is in good nick, should b ok, kms dont mean squat if the cars been abused.

option 2 - wait until the mkt value gets cheaper
and btw dont compare the price of syd with melb
there ALWAYS great deals up there

most EK4s out there hv high mileage as if they were used as a cab lol
again, u need to be lucky to find one in good nick, low kms for 8k
but yeah a 8k clean EK4 is comparatively less impossible than a 8k clean EM1

+1 to ej8, though it may not have a b16a2 or rear brakes, the two are essentially same, minus the face lift parts. Though many doubt the ej8, if u mod it tastefully, it will end up being as good if not better than a em1. I know, cause i have an ej8 :D

Nothing wrong with d-series, slap a turbo kit later on, an u b laughing, though that is what my plans are lol.

apparently only 500 of these genuine EM1's with the B16A2 where released / imported to Australia from the USDM.

so hence the reason why ppl hang onto these, if the engine blows - then upgrade to B18's or the new K series.

You will find it hard to find an EM1 with below 170thou clicks, considering the age of the car. if you find a car that has less than that ..then klms either been played with or someone just doesnt drive LOL.

i got my EM1 last yr same time, it had 190thou on the clock and paid 7g's for it when he was originally asking 11G's and just got desperate to buy his new car....but the condition of the car was immaculate inside and out,

if you know what to look out for (as in additional costs for repairs/replacements etc) then you can bargain with the seller with the additional expenses you got to spend on top of the car.

i had to get timing belt, new cam seals, vtec solenoid seals, all fluid changes which costs me 500 so in theory i spend 7500 ..for peace of mind.

good luck ...in EM1 hunting.
