Use a mineral oil. If it uses oil/blows smoke go 20w50

If it doesn't then use 10w40

Run it with out oil, They asked this question more than million time in here. The older the engine the thicker oil you use.
Whenever the car start burning oils use even thicker oil.
200kkm+ use 10w40 , or 15w40 if the engine is burning oil use 20w50.

if u dont mind paying for castrol edge, i wud recommend motul 8100
similar price, better performance on my B16

i would be using at least a 15W on an engine with 200+ km on the clock. have seen to many cars come in to work that have been running 5W or 10W on high km engines and they spin bearings because the oil is too thin and does not lubricate correctly, so just because it's not burning oil, does not mean it is helping your engine

I would just use Castrol Magnatec also. Been using it for the last 40,000 KM's no problem.

why would you use motul in an engine that was designed with economy in mind?

pointless.

I run a homemade concoction of honey, canola oil, and smiths salt and vinegar chips, the crinkle cut ones, as the straight cut ones dont work properly.

because the sticker clearly says its a high performance engine on the ek d16s :P

but yea on a serious note.. dont use anything under 10... also see if your engine is blowing smoke or leaking alot of oil.. if its doing any of or both of those then best to use a 20 to begin with..

dont bother with motul with such a high km engine.

but 5W or 10W is only identified the viscosity of the oil when it cold ? so , that's should not cause the engine spun the bearings , because the oil shouldn't be that thin when it hot (normal temp) according to muti-grade oil like 5W-40 or 10W-40 oils

i could be wrong tho but that is my understanding

my d16y1 is burning a little bit of oil now....(abt 200ml/1000km driving)didn't get the oil changed done straight after track day and were using some crappy valvoline synthetic blend 10W-40 on track)...also minor leaking from vtec solenoid...

Im still using 10W-40, just keep checking the dipstick and top it up when it's necessary
Just got a bottle of mobil 2000 semi-synthetic 10W-40 but haven't put them in yet....it works awesome on my B18B teg before
But it s still burning then I might go for the penrite "extra 10" 10w-50

my d16 has around 120,000kms.

would it be ok to use 20-50w? or is it too thick?

Thanks,

NuZo

Does it use much oil, blow smoke etc?

If not, stick with a 10w30 or 10w40

once you have reached the 200,000km mark, the clearances are all alot bigger than when the engine is fresh. the reason I say to go with a 15w is that when cold, the oil is slightly thicker, which in turn fills the clearances correctly. you need to remember that 10w30 is what honda recommends when NEW, not when it has done 200,000km. I could say coming into summer run a 25w but i think alot of you guys would freak
