Hey guys/girls, gonna need to change my air filter soon, what would u recommend?
2 choices really
Apex-i

OR K&N

Apexi is much cheaper than K&N, but quality im not so sure, in the past ives used Apexi Pod filters, but not there drop in panel filter, which was very good, never had any experience with K&N though.

if apexi is washable, then get that.

I really don't see performance gains from changing filters.
I just rate the K&N cos it's washable.....

I've used a K&N drop in for over 6 months, still fresh as the day it came. No difference from a paper filter though. Dunno when ill be washing it, lasts years. Wasn't cheap though... costs like 120buk from da us

Cheers man, just what i wanted to hear, yeah 120 is quite expensive, which is why im leaning towards the apexi....... half the price too lol....

K&N filters are deemed illegal by Vicroads tho as they are an oil based air filter, just for arguments sake

afaik only if it's exposed. it will be legal if it's boxed up.

as from september when the new vicroads regulations came out, i was informed and pretty sure i read in one of the trade updates, that all k&n oil based filters will be deemed unrwc

Yeah you can feel the differance. Honda's stock air box is a good set up and with foam filter the air temp is at the coolest temp.
Some people dont like foam filters due to them falling apart and not stopping dust.
but the oil keeps the filter conditioned and the oil all so catches the dust that get pass the two layer foam.
to clean it, all you need to do is put some mineral turps through it. then add oil and put it in a shopping bag. rub it in there squeezes the extra oil out
easy as f#ck

yes, every different manufacture has there own take on filtering, Ryco for example uses thick paper material, though the flow is crap as hell, the filtration is good, but non washable, one time use only. There needs to be a level of Filtration and flow to be a good filter, balance is the key here.

Ive had bad experience with foam filters lol, though dry element not oiled. Foam has one of the worse filtration, an has been tested among other filters, but as far as oiled foam filters, i have no idea, but ill have a look into it as well :)

cool cool, seems the filtration levels are quite well an evident, 2 layers of foam nice! id thought it was just the one lol. as far as pricing goes, its about simialar as K&N, so i am leaning more towards the apexi, $100 vs $60
and i suppose it b good to test a product that no one has tested yet. Good to see that uni filter is quite good.... shame that most ppl doubt that oem box is good, an go for the wank factor pod filter. panel filter ftw!

Very true brother
If you look at the stock box and follow every pipe you'll notice it has bends n shit every where. So if the box was no good why not run a straight bit of pipe from out side in and then they would save money n crap.
