View Full Version : CU2 - Speaker Upgrade - Advice needed

CU2 Euro 09
03-11-2011, 07:35 PM
So I've had it with the speakers in this car (2009 CU2). While they are not bad they aren't great or even good.

I've used it as anyone would and haven't thrashed them. But in saying that I figure if it goes to 40 it should work at that setting with no distortion.

I like metal and need it better than it is currently.

Can anyone give recommendations on brand and cost for upgrading the speakers without changing the head unit and too much stuffing around?

I've had all the speakers replaced now under warranty and I'm sick of the shit quality that the stock speakers offer.

Is there a good brand for metal that doesn't break the budget?

I don't want to spend $5K like that dude that loves classical. I'm sure anything would sound good at that price.

Spend budget is unknown as the product may differ.

That said how about $1000, so budget I guess. NOT mad of money and I want to put in speakers that can take it and sound good. It sounds so tinny right now.

Reading the posts here it seems that all the modders are not metal lovers.

Can anyone that appreciates heavy music make a recommendation?

Do speakers that are recommended by duff duff people actually cut the mustard when it comes to complex heavy music? Nothing against the people that love heavy base, as I do...
It just seems after reading lots of posts that people with an opinion seem to lean towards music that isn't what I'm in to.

hey mate im a metal head too! listening to metal in my euro almost everyday. i changed all my stock speakers to focal and hertz. theyre good brand and combination. the front splits gives you that crisp sound the cymbals whilst the sub which i use the mtx audio 12 inch balance the treble perfectly. i use denon 5 channel which is pretty rare in australia.

all up i i got the autobarn to installed it or me for around 1000 mark. happy with the setup! i recommend them focal and hertz

Would I be thread jacking if I asked about prices/brands on speakers that aren't specifically for metal? More for better quality/bass?..... Don't really want to create a new thread lol. (Something along the lines of JL Audio etc?)

Was there a speaker upgrade between the Pre and Post Face Lift Euro's? I always heard people bashing the crap Cu2 speakers before I purchased my car and had some money put aside to swap it out when I got the car.

After I got the car and ran the stereo through it's paces I decided I didn't really need to swap it out at all. Now, I'm far from an audiophile but I'm a huge music lover (mainly listen to Electro and DubStep these days) and while I wouldn't say that the stereo in it is a world class system, I would in no way call it crap at all. After having the car for a few months now I'm happy I didn't swap it and left it (and the money looks a lot better in my account than in the car lol).

So yeah, it's got me wondering... Was there an upgrade between the models at all?

I agree with you. I got the 2011 model and I was really surprised with the sound system since I read a lot of people complaining that it was crap but maybe it's just because I've never owned a car with a good sound system before and this one is my best so far. Upgrading my sound system would be one of my last mods but I just wanted help on prices so I can save up.

For all, I bought my system a while ago. JL Audo all around, including front splits, 6x9's amp, and sub. goes well perfectly, although I listen to a lot of house/electro, hip hop and r&b. Either way, for crystal clear sound, JL is second to none. In car audio, you honestly get what you pay for. Pay less, get cheap crap stuff. Pay more = quality.

First of all, CL9 and CU2 sound system are different.

CU2's system is a lot tricker to upgrade, and it's crap, but speakers arent the main problem...

Look up user name "Warren" he had done extensive threads about audio systems in the CU2. An he blew $5000 upgrading his CU2's system.

(Searching up Warren now).

Another user on here spent quite a bit of money into his sound system too (CU2 owner as well) and he is also into classical music etc Though I was only looking for something under $2,000. More for bass/rnb/hip hop etc though I will have a read through Warren's threads, thank you.

I wasn't talking about an upgrade between the CL9 and the CU2, I was talking about pre-face lift CU2 and post-face lift CU2.

As I said, I always heard people bagging the CU2 (pre) sound system, but my CU2 (post) system I am pretty happy with. I was wondering if there was an upgrade of sorts between the pre and post face lift, or when it comes to car stereos I am some what easy pleased hahaha.

Check this thread out:

As I said, the issues aren't speakers, it's EQ curve used in the factory head unit and amp
