Hi,

First time creating a thread, but not for myself as i am driving a CL9.
Friend of mine got a civic FD recently, purchased from SYD as we are from ACT.
He took the car to Honda for a spare key. Honda told him the car odometer being alter as the reading at the moment is 5xxxx but actually the car being services in 2009 for odo reading 6xxxx.

Just wondering anyone have idea is there any legal action should be taken regarding to this issues?

Any recommendation would be appreciated as my friend is really frustrated as the moment.

1st of all welcome abourd ozhonda.

I believe it would only be worth taking legal action if you could prove WHO did you the injustice.

If it's a good car, just enjoy it.

But yeah, I would be pissed too.

if the motor is in tip top condition then you'll be alright or him. just keep servicing it with good fluids, only concern is just body panels and chasis if that was bent or dmg i'd sell up and get another fd.

I've found odometers in the recyle department before! Then before you know it, cataclysmic tendencies will over-reach!

Srs though, enunciate to the umpteenth degree and persuade your friend to take a couple clicks to the rear.

Hope this helps.

60,000~ in 09, depending on model car wouldn't need a pinkslip for a few years so wouldn't have the odo reading on record. In this case, it could've gone well over 100,000~ within that 2 years without knowing.

They wouldn't rewind it down to 50,000 from 60,000.. It wouldn't be worth the risk, but going down from 100,000+~ I can understand.

If he purchased it from a dealer, you can view the following:

Yes, that's what he is thinking and he been to the fair trade.
But it's seems that there's no actual law protecting the buyer.
He is so pissed off as he thought this is a big bargain.
Then end up with these dramas.....

Did he purchase it from a dealer ?

If so, there will be a record in the log-books and RTA should also have a record of the ODO reading.

Try to put all of this information together and use it against the people you purchased it from. It will give you a leg to stand on if it were to go to court.

Odometer alterations are EXTREMELY illegal.

the problem is the seller told him he need not spend a dollar on the ride. but somehow the front bumper been damaged and need to repair as well.
I did recommend him to sell off the car, but not sure whether he will get into trouble if selling the car and known the car odometer being altered.....

If it's been reported to the ACCC/Fair Trade and the next buyer finds out and reports the same thing, it could possibly land him in hot water.

Personally, my morals won't allow me to cover up something like that.. Or I'll be as bad as the person that did it to me.

What did fairtrade say about this situation ? As I said earlier, alterations of the odometer is extremely illegal and frowned upon.

He might want to seek legal advice, I'm sure he will be able to get free advice from a few places that specialise in these types of cases.

That's why i am thinking, he cant just sell off the car to someone if he known the issues. He cant be doing the same thing to someone else.
That makes him even more frustrated....

Btw, he never been here. He told me the issue.
So i just come and see whether i would be able to found some useful solution for hims.

I will try and see whether i can take some picture of the car.
but yeah, any solution provided will be appreciated.

All in all, this obviously has become a legal matter and asking legal questions on ozhonda = going backwards most of the time.

Always a good idea to have the vehicle checked like REVS. REVS only operates in NSW and if its a repairable write off in another state then REVS wont show it.

If you use car history.com it checks the nation for repairable writeoffs or flood damaged cars http://www.carhistory.com.au/

There is heaps a cars coming from Queensland with flood damage. They are written off and taken to NSW. They are dried out and sold as undamaged cars. The cars dies about 3-6 months later because of the water damage.

Don't see how your post has anything to do with someone winding back an odometer.....

Wow.. I dont see how your post has anything to do with odometers as well.

Its a forum for peoples opinions and its my 2 cents on how not to get cheated. Its slightly off topic but theres no need to point it out.

All good...

Something on topic but,

Today Tonight followed a guy from smithfield who was winding back the KM on cars for big car dealers and anyone who had $150 dollars. His currently in hiding now.

You dont have to wind back your KM to get them low, in most cars you can just change the cluster with a low one.

Grayfox

Was the dash cluster ever replaced?

If it is a digital won't you need to hack into the ECU?, as that is where it is stored.
