View Full Version : CL9 shutdown problem

This started to happen recently. I drive a 2007 CL9(Facelift model), N/A, and everytime i turn off the car, the engine would still be running, even when i take out the key out from the ignition. It would keep running for another approx. 2minutes then completely shutdown.

The drive is fine, no idling problems, fuel consumption is avg for me around 11/100L.

Anyone know why this is? If you need more info to help me solve this problem please ask. Its annoying me to hear the engine running after ive taken out the key :(

Factory or aftermarket alarm ? Some aftermarket alarms have timers.

My guess is lyk everyone else, it has some type of timer

OP doesn't mention the problem is ongoing which rules out a turbo timer (even though he said the car is NA).

Take it to a mechanic and ask them to look at it, we can't see what mods you have if any.

I would say it was malfunctioning previously, and something has made it come back on....

The timer....

Not an issue since purchase.

Take it to a mechanic.

maybe there was a timer to activate the turbo timer. that timer went off and the turbo timer is now activated and timing off your engine shutdown.

inb4inception.

How many times has this happened since the firsrt time it happened? Have you timed how long exactly the timer keeps the motor on? Just 2 minutes? That's a long time. I suggest timing the timer a couple times to see much time the timer is set for. That's if it is indeed a timer.

Otherwise, don't waste your time and take it to a mechanic. You'll save heaps of time that way.

youve got a turbo hidden somewhere ;)

check the front of your engine for a massive intercooler! then tell us if you have a turbo or not !

Once you pull the key out, the ECU cuts the fuel pump and the ignition spark. To keep running, you have to have something that is causing it to supply fuel and an ignition source:

Fuel source:
Injectors leaking into intake manifold even when there is no signal being supplied to the injectors. Cause: Gummed injectors.

Ignition source:
Hot combustion chamber with a very hot glowing hotspot. Cause: Severe carbon deposits.

I reckon these two situations are extremely unlikely with a car of that age. I think it might be something else. I recommend timing how long the engine keeps running using a stop watch. If it runs for the same time consistently each time, then it could be something like a timer hidden somewhere (which means you have an immobiliser chip stuck near the immobiliser reader too). If the engine running duration is different each time, then I'd recommend bringing to a proper Honda mechanic to diagnose. Don't use those dodgy mechanics that you see around.

I think i would be the first to know if it has a turbo ahaha, but i did have a Mongoose MAP80 installed a month ago. My brother took the car out when i woke up so i cant check up on it now. But the problem isnt constant aswell. It happened 3times in a row on sunday, was fine on monday morning then happened again at night. Ive called my brother a few minutes ago and he said its fine now, it turned off properly like it should.

So, if it was the turbo timer, wouldnt it be more constant??

Did the problem start occuring after u got the mongoose alarm fitted? If so id be looking toward that, look thru the insruction manuel if it has anything lyk a timer on it.

Unlikely?

Unlikely since the injectors are turned off when the key is out. Hence my post. Dieseling is more likely to occur with carburetors where any flow of air through the carby will draw more fuel in.

Alarm was installed a month ago and only happened now. Car was bought in Mid July 2011.

Ill try enabling then disabling turbo timer when bro gets back and hopefully that works :S.

Okay i think it was my alarm. I tried turning on the turbo timer and heard 2 chirps which means it is now disarmed. which means it was armed before. Tested it and car was fine again.

Thanks for the help guys. Appreciated :) turns out to be a silly problem :S im noob
