Cam seals could be the reason its leaking oil from the timing cover. hmmmm. Could be timing, Relay for the fuel pump? sounds like its got spark but no fuel to ignite it.

Hopefully some one that's a bit more mechanically minded will help you out.

Good luck mate.

Make friends with a mechanic, and get him to help you diagnose it in person.
Or organise an NRMA guy to look at it, hopefully you can share the expense.

Short of that, there's a million reasons a car will not start.

If your not getting any spark the best places to start are checking the condition of your leads, plugs, distributor and ignition module.
Generally i think its a good idea to replace the leads and plugs when you buy a car as part of a service.
Next thing after that i'd do is check the distributor, check the cap and rotor button for cracks wear etc.

Relay for the fuel pump from post #2
Ignition Module from post #8 and #11
Condition of leads, plugs, distributor from post #11
Check distributor capr and rotor button for cracks and wear, from post #11.

oil on the leads would make it run poorly but it should still run

he said the check engine light should stay on not go out untill the engine is running

This isn't right. The check engine light comes on for about 2-3 seconds in my car and then turns off. This is when I turn the ignition to ON (i.e. all the way but not starting).

Either that or something's wrong with my car haha. But it runs great.
