I think wangzz2001 meant to ask if 235/40R18 tyres can be fitted to an 04 CL9 Euro. Stock size is 205/55R16.

It does substantially increase the diameter of the wheel/tyre assembly and would make the speedometer read about 2% too slow. In other words, if your speedometer is indicating 100km/h, the car would be actually travelling at 102km/h. That assumes that the originally indicated speed was correct; which in practice it is not as most CL9 Euro speedometers read at about 4% too fast. Which means that an indicated 100km/h is actually 96km/h. So the size combination would be OK, but it would also reduce the perceived acceleration of the car: It would dull performance.

A size closer to overall original diameter is 215/40R18 but the sidewall height is reduced to 86mm compared to 112mm stock. The ride would suffer a lot. But if you are young and have good kidneys, then you could endure it for a while until you get older and wiser. It probably would only shorten your life by about 5 years.
