Hey guys, I am overseas next week and will be gone for 4.5 weeks. Been reading up on if any precautions need to be done while storing the car. The car will be parked outside.
Some things i have read is to:
- Leave the handbrake off (which I mostly do as it sticks sometimes after not driving for couple days).
- Fill the tank up with fuel (though a post on ozhonda says near empty as fuel can go bad).
- Disconnect the battery.
- Have someone start it up after 2 weeks (though if I dc battery my bro wont know how to re-connect).
- Spray WD40 on metal parts to reduce corrosion (not sure of what parts though??).
Any advice on thse points or other points to be added? Thanks

treat it no different to how you would, just parking overnight.

if you dont have a garage to store it in then im assuming you're storing it outside somewhere?
in that case DO NOT PUT YOUR HAND BRAKE DOWN.
and its only 4 weeks. just need someone to start it up once a week or once every couple of weeks and itll be fine.

yea no garage though there is some sort of covering i might be able to (have to ask permission). Car is parked in within a boundary, not out on the road. But wondering why you said not to put the handbrake down? Just to make sure its properly grounded?

just buy a cheap automotive covering at supercheap auto for like 20 bucks and that should be okay for 4 weeks, wouldn't advise leaving the handbrake down though, just have it pulled on lightly providing you are on level ground

would this be a necessary procedure for 2months?

2 months i would fill the car full with premium fuel and disconnect the battery, don't know why people are saying release the hand brake.....

since you disconnect the battery, no.
premium fuel because I've been told by mower shop guys that I should fill my fuel can with premium. Last roughly 6 months.
regular unleaded only lasts 1 month.

If parked outside, then leave the handbrake up so that people can't push your car down onto the street (locks the rear wheels) and onto a tow truck to steal it. If it is an auto, then it will also be in P (locks the front wheels), but if it was a manual, I'd leave it in 1st gear.
Also, there is no need to start the car every week.

great thanks. I have been able to get a covered park, withing a complex so all good. Will leave the handbrake up too to make it secure more :).
