Yokohama ADVAN (http://clixtrac.com/goto/?46768) sponsored the Skyline Australia Nationals this year. The event lasted two days with day 1 being a track day at Winton raceway. We noticed a few ADVAN Neova competitors trying to better their times on the Winton leader board. We noticed a new comer Brent (SAU member BRENTOS) testing out his new tyres. We gave him a Neova compeititor sticker between one of his sessions. Brent managed a 1.49.499 and our jaws dropped when he told us it was his first time at Winton. After watching him enter the main straight and brake late into turn one there was no way anyone would have guessed it.

What’s the story behind your car:
I chose my R33 GTS-T as I wanted a car that had potential seeing that I wanted to turn it into a tough street car that would also be used on the track. I bought my car completely stock so that I could modify it bit by bit how I wanted to, not how somebody else wanted to. My love for Skylines began at an early age and has only grown over the years.
Why did you choose the Advan Neova tyre, what do you like about them most:
I chose Advan Neova’s as they give me outstanding grip on both the street and track; this meant I didn’t need to own a second set of tyres just for track days. The durability of the Advan tyres is amazing and far exceeds that of other brands I have used. After hearing about the astonishing lap times achievable on this tyre, as well as the driveability and robustness on the street I knew I had to give them a go.
Current car mods :
High flowed T3 turbo, FMIC, Full turbo-back exhaust with high flow cat, K&N pod with metal intake, Nismo 740cc injectors, Bosch 040 fuel pump, Camtech 256 cams & Cam gears, Power FC Computer, Exedy heavy duty button clutch, BC BR coilovers, Front and rear Cusco strut braces, 18” Advan TCII rims with Advan Neova AD08 tyres, EBC redstuff (front) & greenstuff (rear) brake pads.
Future mods:
First and foremost a bigger turbo, specifically the GT3076. The turbo will hopefully be installed in a month or so. In addition I plan on getting slotted rotors & braided brake lines. On the handling front I will be putting Whiteline sways in and removing Hicas. I will then finish it off by putting a Hicas lock bar in place.
Current PB time:
1.49.4990 at Winton. That was my first time ever on the track.
Target time:
I believe a 1.43 will be very achievable once I get more track days under my belt. I am confident that after a few more runs I can better my lines going into corners which will greatly improve my times. In addition, once I get the car where I want it on both the power and handling fronts, it will give me a massive advantage.
What do you think the secret is to getting a good lap time:
Use every inch of the track to your advantage and be as smooth as possible, in particular when heading into a corner. Tyre screech doesn’t necessarily mean a good time.
A message to keen competitors who would like to join in:
Get involved and give it a go. This competition allows you to compare results with other competitors in a friendly environment. People aren’t going to care if you get a slower time than them, as long as you’re out there giving it ago and having some fun!
