Power steering for ED with B18c

Hey guys,
Im trying to get a mod plate for the ED. The mechanic either wants me to install powersteering back in, or find a non powersteering rack.

So i figured AUDM models all come with powersteering, ive also tried to make the previous powersteerinf work but the pump doesnt have any clearance. Has anyone dealt with this before for making it legal ?

the manual power steering rack is out of the question as all AUDM EDs have power assisted steering, and manual US racks are all left hand drive.

what combination have you previously tried?

what are the clearance issues? between the block and the rad there isn't enough space?

at a guess I presume your issue is more related to mounting the ED pump on the B18 block? does it even bolt up?

Got any pics of the current situation/space?

I have the B18c powersteering pump, It actually clears the radiator, but doesnt clear on the right side where the pulley extends out. Ive talked to a power steering specialist, he's quoted me $1100 for a custom powersteering. Thats a bloody hefty price i reckon.

you are also going to have issues with the B18C pump because the fittings from the ED steering rack aren't going to fit the pump.

if you had a custom bracket made does it appear you could bolt the ED pump to the B18 block? and not have clearance issues?

Use a DA9 power steering pump with ED pulley.
You'll also need to make a small bracket to relocate the tensioner bolt/bolt hole.
Lp line will also need to be made to use original reservoir.
NB. Pulley bolt - 12mm is left hand thread.
Depending on B-series engine used, you may also have to change the crank pulley for V belt drive.
This will clear the radiator, head light, & chassis rail.

Edit - use the DA HP line too :thumbsup:

instead of changing the crank pulley you can change the pump pulley to 3G prelude. which uses a ribbed belt. also bolts right up.
Be aware however there are 2 different 3G pulley types. One has less of an offset than the other. so you will need to assess which one will be more suitable
