Hey guys. I have long ago pulled apart my car for a rebuild. Well, i'm getting sick of it sitting around, so although I still have limited funds to continue with the build, I want to get a start on cleaning bits and pieces up.

For instance, I have the subframe off the car etc. What I want to do is strip the paint back using a random paint stripper, then have all the pieces powdercoated. Things like control arms, subframes etc.

Can anyone see any issues using tools like wire wheels, paint stripper and stuff just to get the parts prepped. Any other useful suggestions people have that could help get the parts back to bare metal ready for a new lease on life.

Thanks!!

sand blasting if you can get access to a booth easily !

yeah i reckon!

Unfortunately, I dont really have access to a booth, which would then require having to pay for the time...so wont really work which is a bummer as that would be a lot quicker and less labour intensive exercise for sure!!

But thanks for the suggestion! muchly appreciated!

U don't need to have a booth for sandblasting,
All you is access to a descent air compressor, a hand sand blaster ( super cheap have them.)a garage that you can line with some tarps to stop aggregate going everywhere and a broom to pick up the mess and you can re use the aggregate as well.

Have some good leather gloves pair of trakies and old jumper. And of course some good eye and face protection a welding mask is good the one with the eye flipper.

I'm going to be doing the same when my eg comes apart.
I reckon a good degreasing job to get it clean..then a light sand and spray can the part. Should come up fine just by doing that. Give it a few coats so the paint lasts.
Use high temp paint for parts that might cop some heat..other then that, I don't reckon paint stripper/sand blasting is needed.
