Im not sure where this goes (as always)
But anyone from hong kong ever tried importing parts from HK back to Australia? I know HK laws bans any sort of modification (but i know people still do it ) and i know that both labor and parts in HK for automotive is bloody cheap. Thought i might be able to get a few things i want and ship it back by boat. Anyone had experience? I know this targets a small audience on the forums but hey i might save myself some money.
Thanks in advance.

The only import tax i can think of is over 1k AUD charge 10% tax. But if i ship them back myself shouldn't i be able to put the price of it under 1k to avoid tax? Im sure someone here has done it before?

Im guessing second hand parts are cheap their as i seen cars EG. Skyline R33 for like 3k.
I have no idea about where to source part but when i go there during Jan planning to walk around to see what i can find. I know theirs heaps of garages in kowloon bay but im not sure.

When bringing it in, just claim it under 1k and you won't have to pay tax on it.

underdeclaring is actually illegal,

"You must tell us the true and correct value of the goods (that is the amount you paid for the goods) for each type of goods listed (see example below – 2 digital cameras US$700 ea). Customs and Border Protection can demand to see your invoices or other evidence that shows what you paid. Do not provide values you know to be incorrect (even when those values are provided by the supplier). Undervaluing goods is an offence under the Customs Act 1901."

2ndly if your shipment got lost or damaged, you will be covered to the amount you put the value. so if it is $5000, and you say its $600, anything happen to the cargo. it will be $600 only you will be covered.

people assume it will never happen to me, reality is, i heard true story people get burn. wings damaged, parts missing. etc.

Ship the coils in 2 seperate packages to 2 seperate addresses a few days apart to avoid going over the limit.

Actually i realized the limit is 1000AUD right?
The whole set of coil (brand new) value is not even reaching the limit with the current currency rate
Then i guess there shouldnt be any problem with the custom. :)

Cheers.
