hit up the RTA web site dude, they have a list of Engineers that you "should" use.

Call a few local ones up and get a price off em, it varies from engineer to engineer.

dont need an engineer.

The way they classify increases in capacity is based on the maximum engine size that is available in that chassis. So the EG came with 1.3, 1.5 and 1.6 litre motors, so therefore, your engine is perfectly fine.

Its not based on that particualar car, but the make as a whole.

for example, back in the day, the original commodores came with a 2 litre 4 cylinder, all the way up to a 5 litre v8.

Therefore, they base the engine conversion on the maximum engine the car came with, the v8, not the 4cylinder.

Well i went do get the engine swap cleared at the mechanics near work and he said i need an engineer cert cause on my rego papers it said i should have a 1.3.. I now have a 1.6..

Rta states if its a 15% or more increase i need one.. Cant work out if it is or not..

But the guy said i needed one...

the engine capacity that is on my rego papers is 1343.0

On wiki it says the 16y4 is 1590.0

is this more then 15%? i cant work it out...

ffs. didnt you read what i said? its based on the LARGEST ENGINE AVAILABLE IN THAT CHASSIS.

Therefore you can put 15% bigger than a 1.6 in without needing an engineers cert.

Al you need to do is go to a place that does blue slips.

Ring them up, tell them you need an adjustment of records for a new engine number.

They say ok, you go there, show them the new motor, thhey change the records. Simple as that. Dont ask questions about needing an engineers cert, and if the place tells you that you need one, walk away, its not true.

trism is right.

Technically you can install an engine with 1829cc legally without engineering cert (1590 x 1.15). The mechanic you went to is a noob.

x2 ... lol

my chassis is 1.6L ...therefore if im going to a 2.0L ill need a eng cert.

fkuc that ...the engine looks the same ..just diff displacement and engine numbers :P

risk FTW! lol
