so i got 97 integra GSi,

Stock Wheels = 14 x 5.5J
Stock tires = 195/60R14 86H

going to get

Wheels = 16 x 7.0J
Tires = 205/45ZR16 87W

all seems like an upgrade now i got a few questions and problems

#1 with wider tires, will it put on strain on my power steering?
#2 will it decrease the steering responsiveness with wider tires?
#3 with lower profile tires, will it be less confortable ride on bumpy roads?

also i got a major problem is
as u can see the new wheels is A LOT wider than the stock, 7.0J vs 5.5J
it also means that with stock tires on stock wheels, the tires are 5.53cm(2.765cm out) wider than the rims width
but with new setup, tires only 2.72cm wider (1.36cm out)

I am not sure if my calculation is correct, and im also not sure how the tire size and rim size work, so how will it affect my driving? will it mean that if i accidently hit the kerb my rims will come in contact with the concret as there are only 1.36cm of rubber to take the impact?

i also have question is that will the same tyre fit on different kind of rim? say if the tire is designed for 7.0J rims will it fit on 7.5J or 6.5J ? ?

the tyre size you are getting is correct.

with the wider tyres ur power steering maybe a little heavier but it isn't noticeable .
also with the wider tyres u will find that it is a lot more responsive then the then ur stock tyre as your car will have alot more contact with the floor.
as for comfort low profile tyres never are cos ur have a put a bit more air then usual lol.
and watch out for those curbs lol wont have the protection u used to have lol.

but doing this upgrade wont affect ur driving as long as you get a good wheel alighment so that way ur car is properly set up for ur new wheels and tyres.

and as for the tyres they would fit on any 16 inch rim . with the different sizes rim it will just make the tyre sit differently say 6.5 the tyre will sit over the lip of the rim (for some rim protection) and say u go 8 itll stretch the tyre and cause the rim to be more exposed.

hope this helps ur situation =]

thank u very much, i got the idea now, looks like the new wheels, the tires will just sit a little over the rim to take some gental hits (like reverse parking). not as much protection as the stock

205/45/16 is frickin chunky. It's closest you can get to stock rolling diameter but damn does it look fat... personally i'd go 205/40/16 (if you dont want any stretch but puts out rolling diameter by 20mm) or preferably 195/45/16.

In terms of comfyness, a 45 is ok... maybe cos i'm used to it but i had 40 profile for a while which was pretty bad. Felt every bump

Dont worry about the whole kerbing thing, don't base your decision on that. No offence but if you can't reverse park without mounting then i think it's safe to say you haven't got expensive wheels to worry about so it shouldn't even be a factor.

#1: No, your P/S can handle much wider and stickier tyres
#2: No, you'll gain responsiveness with a lower profile tyre with less sidewall flex assuming comparing same tread pattern tyre
#3: Yes you'll feel the bumps more with the 205 45 16 being lot less balloon shaped of the 195 60 14 to cushion the shocks.

I still remember a fren who bought a DC4 new back in the mid 90s and ditched the stock wheels and tyres and fitted the 205 45 16 Pirelli P700Z tyres onto a set of Momo 16x7's and that transformed the car. Going from 195 60 14 to 205 45 16 was a huge jump back in those days esp most were content with the 205 50 15 size.

With the tyre vs rim width, consult the tyre manufacturers' recommendations they advise the range of rim widths allowable for each tyre and a most suitable width also.

Pics of my 205 45 16 RE11 tyres fitted on 16x7 slipstream style wheels:

Fits great, rides firm but that's mainly to do with the stiff construction of the RE11 tyres being a trackable road tyres. The sidewall still has a tad of bulge that could give you some leeway on light scrapes against kerbs but I won't rely on it.
