I have a JDM cable B16 box from a CRX in my teg currently and it is leaking from the axle seals, slightly crunches at high RPM in most gears, has a noisy input bearing and doesnt have an LSD:(

Looking at 3 options-

1. MFactory LSD, bearing kit and all synchros plus OEM seals while I am at it probably replace the clutch too. Downtime would be a downside

2. Second hand type R box, would have to get new clutch and hydro conversion plus not keen on increasing revs with 4.7 final drive with turbo, would also mean I still only have a second hand box in unknown condition

3. fix up the B18A S1 box I have sitting at home, dunno companies or parts that will fit this box and would need to replace final drive too. No real downtime and cost would be about the same as option 1 so this would be my preferred option if I can just source parts.

I can drop and install the box myself but would get the internal work done for me probably. Suggestions/opinions most welcome.
This is for a B18C turbo engine in a DA9

Definitely dont go with option 2. FI with short ratios isnt fun.

Can you afford the downtime? Do you need it for work? If I was you I would calculate options 1 and 3. source the parts find out how much it is and go from there. I dont have any experience with b series, are the B18A ratios shorter or longer than a type r box?

The car is a weekender so I can afford the downtime but really don't want to, frustrating when I get only one nice day in a month when I am actually able to drive it and its up n stands!

Comparo of ratios here- http://www.hondatech.com.au/forum/archive/index.php/t-28.html

I have the Y1 in there at the moment and really like those ratios, close but not too close, does about 3700rpm at 110kmh.
I have a J1 in the DA6 and tighter ratios are good but 4100 at 110kmh isn't.
The spare box is an S1, I believe the Australian spec is the 3rd one on the list in the link, longer ratios might not be what I am really after though, lots of windy lower speed roads where I live. Keen to see if anyone knows where to get parts for this type of box though. Most places only cater for the VTEC boxes

Approx rundown of prices-

LSD $1000
Full bearing kit $550
all synchros $300
Seals $???
Labour $??? (just on the box, not install or removal)

Plus clutch $500? I believe I need the early B series clutch type for cable gearbox size: 220x24x25.0mm not the later 225x24x26.0mm is there any way to confirm this by numbers on the gearbox?

To post 1, I'd go with the #1 option. A rebuilt gearbox will be better than a 2nd hand gearbox neitherless if it's an itr gearbox.

Seals $50 ~ $200
Labour $200 ~ $400

In regards to the clutch PM JDMyard, tell him all the information you know of the gearbox and he will find you one.
