If you change your engine oil every 6 months, go castrol magnatec 10w-40. $25 for 5L (when on sale, grab a few boxes). Won't break the bank and it'll do the job. It's the only oil i've ever used and i've never heard anyone say it's a shit oil or anything like that.

I use OEM for all other fluids though.

You should invest in buying a Haynes manual for your car. Books are much easier to flip through while the car is being worked on. Much better a book gets a little dirty rather than your keyboard

Your car didn't come with a user's manual at all? Odd.

Anyway here, http://downloads.hondatech.info/Auto/Manuals/Civic/Ab0VE.Civic%20EJ6%2C%20EJ7%2C%20EJ8%20%2896-00%29%20Service%20Manual.zip

That service manual is for civic 96-00 which will have info for the 99-00 EM1. How much oil to pour in, drain plug torque etc. It's a bitch to find stuff in these... sometimes i just print out the pages i need, but most of the time i just leave the laptop next to me.

Just to save you the trouble, the EM1 takes 4L of engine oil including oil filter (3.7L without filter). Drain bolt torque is 44Nm. It's on 8-6 of the manual.

I don't understand why double posting matters? So what if there's 2 posts about the same thing it's not like the ozhonda server is going to overload because of a tiny file that might not need to be there

It's just easier if you had searched, for yourself AND those who answered your question, which was already answered in a number of other threads.

Oh and Magnatec is fine if you service often. OEM is good too, both are synthetic.

Also from another forum:

If by "OEM Honda oil" you mean the motor oil sold under the Honda brand name, it is, in fact, Mobil Clean 5000 (MC5K), bottled for resale by Honda dealers. (You can read that on the bottle.) And, if you go to link below, you'll see that MC5K is pretty stout, among the best conventional oils you can buy. So is Castrol High Mileage. In other words, there's really no significant advantage to one over another, particularly if you are changing motor oil every 3k miles. But you can judge that for yourself from the linked data. http://www.pqiamerica.com/testresults3a.html

Make of it what you will, but it seems that using a variant of the OEM oil (in this case, Mobil) is fine too if you can find the right one which is called Mobil Super 5000 after it was renamed from MC5K.
