I just moved to NSW and am looking at transfering my REGO from QLD to NSW.

So I called up the NSW RTA this morning to get some information This was basically what happened.

Sir you have to get blue slip, blah blah blah, get CTP.
Wait what? CTP? I thought that was included in the rego.
Sorry sir, in NSW it is a sperate thing.
Oh ok no problem, thank you.

Thinking to myself oh ok no problem, the rego must be cheaper and this CTP thing cant cost more than $100-$200.

Call up AMMI, sir that would be $737 a year.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: say whuuuuuuuuuuuttttttttttttttttt?!!?

I'm only 23 but have never claimed anything on insurance nor been in any accidents.

BUT GAWD DAM..... I shopped around and it seems to be all the same price.

Is every one paying this insane price???

Is it really just because i'm under 25? because $737 being the lowest quote i can find is insanely expensive and abit unfair.

If you haven't already, use this website to compare the prices of the major CTPs available in NSW. http://prices.maa.nsw.gov.au/index.html

Even if you are over 25, the difference between insurance companies can be a few hundred dollars. Once I had my provider want over $600 for CTP and I'm over 30. Used the website and found another for $440. Now whenever the time comes to renew, I jump to that website to ensure that I am not getting ripped off compared to the other companies.

@aaronng, Thanks, I used that and the cheapest one it showed me was $736. Guess I'll just have to pay that.

Everything was going so well with this move except the motoring. Come to NSW get bumped down to a P licence...Change rego, get charged $700. %&*(@#$%%^!!!!!

I had a foreign licence, only had a QLD licence for 2 years, came to NSW and they said that I had to be driving for 3 years in AUS and issued me with a provisional licence. Apparently i have to be on the green Ps for another year.

not really, im over 33 paying 4 ctp every years according to my experiences it depends on what car is it for, usually the heavier the car (eg..van, or bus )the higher the cost.
Also..the more passenger your vehicle can carry the higher the cost of ctp. If you car doesnt have comprehensive insurance usually they charge ctp higher, ring up Nrma if you dont believe me

CTP insurance is provided by a number of licensed insurance companies who set premium prices in a competitive market. They may take into account factors such as:

your accident record
the age of all regular drivers that drive your vehicle
the age of your vehicle
the type of vehicle
comprehensive or third party property insurance
the purpose for which your vehicle is used (private or business)
renewal or new Green Slip

This is fair, you are driving for the same number of years for a full licence as everyone else in NSW/ACT. Just play it cool, you'll have no worries and you'll be have your full licence in no time :)

I remember when CTP was just over $100 in NSW - back then I was in my 20s and I thought it was expensive. 20 odd years on and I look at that cost fondly.

Welcome to NSW where everything is expensive :(

Just wait till it fails blue slip for a loud exhaust or similar..lol

im pretty sure you cant fail blueslip for loud exhaust. you can fail for your exhaust having a leak though

If they want to be an ass, you can fail a blue slip, for having a non standard exhaust without engineering paper work.

Try just wait till it fails for just about any aftermarket modification, blue slips are a bitch unless you know a good place.

About $620 odd per year, (ctp included) and then around 800 for comprehensive insurance...

Damn ctp separate to rego would piss me off... For once QLD don't look so bad lol

I think it's shorter in Perth still. Or it might have changed.

I got my fulls before I turned 19, drove around with a WA license until I turned 21 and then got a NSW license.

WA is still the best by miles. It's like $350 odd for 1 year rego. No pinkslip or greenslip or any of that shit.. Just pay for rego and your set... How it should be.
