Hi guys,
As the title. I cant hear the vtec kick in or maybe Im just not familiar with vtec that why I cant tell if it working or not and this is my first vtec I own. So is there anyway I can check to tell if my vtec is working and Im a honda newbie aswell. All your help is appriciated.

being SOHC you wont hear the vtec crossover like the DOHC models because the vtec lobes only effect the intake valves
on DOHC they effect the intake valves and exhaust valves making for a loud/audible crossover
its also very hard to hear any difference with a factory airbox
try putting an intake kit on the car - you will hear it better but it will still be hard to hear
vtec will not engage if the oil pressure isnt up either - you have to warm the car for at least 10mins to get the temp guage up before reving out the gears
stock engagement is 5600rpm
if your still worried about it - you can wire up a light to the vtec solonoid so you can see if its engaging or not
or take it to a honda mechanic to have it checked out

otherwise if you don't have money for an intake kit, just remove the air filter & leave the lid off, take it round the block and listen for cross over

look up D16y1/D16z6/D16y8 on youtube for SOHC VTEC
than look up D15b7 or D16a6 on youtube for SOHC non-VTEC

Perform a diagnostic test and check if you get the error codes for vtec solenoid or pressure switch.
There's a DIY in the DIY section that shows you how to do this and what codes to look for. This is also good to check if you're getting any other errors on your car.
But as everyone is saying its hard to sound check for vtec on SOHC motors.
