Hey guys
Just wondering if ek9 spoilers are illegal on the ek since they don't come with a brake light? I was planning to pick up a carbon fibre one and they don't come with brake lights either and wondering if that fine?

Yeah should be okay. Aslong as you have your main brake lights you should be fine. Its only an issue if theres a brake light, but its not working. I havnt had any issues on legality with my ek9 wing.

For example. There are some spoon style replica spoilers with brake lights in them. If that brake light doesnt work its an issue. So its the same with the ek9 wing. OEM ek9 wings dont have brake lights, so its no problem.

Do EKs have a third brake light without the spoiler? Because ADR 60 states that all vehicles manufactured after (I think its 89) must have a "centre high mounted stop lamp" (3rd brake light).

The third break light would be from the stock ek spoiler.

As stated above, if a third brake light is available to you, it must be working. But if theres no third brake light is available, then it doesnt matter.

If that makes sense. Sorry.. Its too early!

Do you have a source for that? I'm sure if it was there from manufacture it is considered to be "available" even if your aftermarket Non ADR approved modification doesn't have it available.
It's almost like using a racing seat rail that has no belt buckle and then saying you can't use it because it wasn't available.

In saying all that, it completely comes down to any police officer who pulls you over and also how observant any driver who rear ends you is. I'm sure they could claim the lack of the high mounted brake light caused the accident and probably win the case too.

it is illegal full stop
most cars after a certain year had to have the third brake light
so if you dont have one but your car came with it standard and IF the cop knows his shit expect a fine
and dont have a sook on here like other ozhonda members

You've gotta be kidding. This is illegal and that is illegal. They might as well go ahead and say having a nice car is illegal

Unless your definition of nice includes the term "unmodified" then that is correct.

Like I and 90LAN said, if the car was manufactured after 1989 (Motor Vehicle Standards Act), its must have a third brake light to be legal in Aus.

Not my car :)

Well its an import so thats a different story lol.

But seriously i dont think anyone will notice no middle brake light, also never heard of anyone copping fines etc with the EK9 wing.
