Sup all, Name is Ben. I'm from tas, and I drive an old 1977 Honda civic. Yeah, first gen.
Had it for a few years, third owner (my sister had it before me >.> then an old man who had it since new) until I got enough money to upgrade. bought myself an eg:

until this happened one fateful sunday afternoon:

So, I went back to driving my old civic again, found some cheap rims for it, got some fender mirrors and a bit of car audio to install.

But yeah, joined up to see what people have done with their civics, ask about what I can do with the old civ, and maybe find an eg rolling shell to chuck my d15b7 into.. so it's not sitting in a banana car for too much longer >.> I feel bad leaving a perfectly good engine in a written off car :(

went around a corner a bit too fast in the wet... lost the arse end, and ran into a light pole :/ I was lucky to get out with only a scratch on my side and a cut on my finger. no major injuries. was out of the hospital pretty quickly (for a sunday.. waiting 5 hours for a cat scan man to come >.> )
sucks a lot since i'd just finished my audio install, and was thinking about performance and looks :(

Yeah, was a stupid move, and very lucky to get out. Won't be happening again... I hope.
But yeah, cheers :)

Gidday Ben, great to see your little Gen1 Civic, try and keep it away from light poles, won't you. Clean examples are hard to find. Here's a website that may interest you as well.
http://www.1stgencivic.com/
Covers most if not all the Honda 1st Gen's, so you might get some extra info if you need it from there. Found out about it from a guy that works at my local shopping centre when I saw his Civic RS in the carpark (larger capacity engine, ultimate factory sportier model, imported from the UK). He told me has 5 Gen1's all up, 1 with a B16A that he tracks whenever he can.
And while we might think RS would mean "Rally Sports", in typical Honda and Japanese nomenclature it actually stands for "Road Sailing"

Personally I'd be buying something newer asap, I reckon these things are death traps.

I think Ben's shown that that's a possibility no matter what age the car is.

Pre-much. The green thing has gone through more crap than the blue civ.. Just shows experience driving a car really helps (by which i mean experience with the car, not just driving experience) Had a few oversteer moments/ skipping across the road/ feeling like the arse is going to explode.. what do i mean?
-oversteer: Went a bit too close to the line on a slipway, was braking whilst going down (note to self, stop braking whilst turning) wasn't going fast.. just scared me a little, didn't get any sideways action (thank god) just felt it slip a little.
-skipping: Put the mags on, and the roads around here are pretty shit.. drove over a bumpy part on the highway, at 105km/h, car kinda jumped sideways
-Jumped sideways one day: completely my fault, went around a corner thinking it was a normal road, found there was speed humps.. went flying across the road. scared the shit out of me
-arse exploding: Ever had your shocks leak and have no oil left in them? scary shit going around a corner.. the whole car jumps... was lots of fun :|
Much work left to do, and since my crash, I drive a lot more carefully.
But yeah, have seen that site before, cheers hondapop :D
Am planning on sourcing a ah 5speed box to chuck on it, probably getting a webber from i think he said a renault 12 or something, then getting the exhaust redone (should have mentioned it has a 2inch straight through to a lukey muffler)
but yeah, looked into putting the engine from the eg (still works) into the 1st gen.. got quoted 10k~ for install costs.. was like 'awwww bugger it then' maccaswage really makes things hard :(
many plans, much to find and put into effect >.>
But yeah, After having the eg, I've decided to keep the 1st gen, despite the lack of lots of things (a/c.. which is a pain in the ass sometimes, front speakers, lack of new parts) I like the uniqueness.

Keep saving your money buy something with traction control, ebd, abs, airbags, etc... like a 2nd hand jazz, jazzes look like today's 1st gen civics and you can get them in green. Take care.

Sorry, I think I'll keep the old civ.. been with me for quite a few years, don't think I have the heart to let it go, either :)

4 door's would be rarer than 2 door's I would think. Leastways of the ones I've seen they all have been 2's

Have you thought about swapping the d15 into the 1st gen? There is a lot of work involved but it's a pretty big upgrade for them. I love those first gens, I froth out every time I see one. Never sell it they will probably be worth something one day

have thought about it, yeah.. 10k worth of engine bay work.. not including suspension upgrades, brake upgrades and that kinda crap :| plus would need a dry sump from memory.. the sump would hang a bit low if i recall correctly.
but yeah, thinking i'll just keep the ec for now, give it a bit of extra go, when it dies, ask a guy in hobart if he has any crossflow 1500's (don't know if there are any) and drop that in. after a rebuild of course ;D

But still, I'd rather keep this, and try to find something I can chuck my d15 in, than buy another eg/ ek... Money doesn't grow on trees.. Why? Because maccaswage.

also thinking about getting these wheels at some stage in time
http://www.performancewheels.com.au/uploads/products/C%20SUPERLITE%2015X7.jpg
As for plans for the future:
-Going to rip the passenger seat out of the eg, find a driver side seat, try to get the rails and such made to fit, then once that is done, take them to a place locally, get them reupholstered in black leather with red stitching.
-Buy me a nardi with black leather and red stitching
-Buy the above wheels
-Get twin webber carby system made up
-Get extractors made up
-Get new exhaust
-Possibly put the eg rad in, if it fits straight on (I'd chuck it in with the thermo fan from the eg as well, just need to wire it up or whatever hopefully)
-get some shocks/ hubs from my guy in hobart for some 4x100 conversions :D
Lots of things to do, no money to do it D:
In the meantime, saving up for mah engine repairs, then it's saving up for some of these things ^^

Haha! love those wheels, my favourite style. Have to chuckle when they say "Beware of imitations or copies", seeing they (and all others) are copies of the original 'Minilite' wheels produced in the 1960's for the Austin/Morris Cooper Mini's in the UK (from which they take their name and are still in production). Didn't know about these ones made here. Had some like them on a little 1969 Datsun 1000 2Dr sedan (notchback, not the coupe. Loved that car, could turn it in 1/2 a street width).
Gotta have plans and aims.

Haha, thanks, I'd love to keep that style as it's pretty much same era, keep it old school :D
Also, think I may have double posted :|

awesome ride, wondering where you got the mirror fenders from? got one of these also, contemplating on selling as i dont have much time to fix up, but then again so hard to let go. doing bits and pieces on it in the meantime...awesome little go karts these are!

haha yeah, they are pretty awesome machines ^^
Got the mirrors from a dude on jdmst, who bought them off ebay. they were to suit a 280z i believe. however, being from nsw, i'd say you'd probably need spring loaded ones to have them legally :|
But yeah, I had this up for sale for a while there, nearly sold it, then the buyer backed out due to not earning as much as they thought.
Kept it, and yeah.. heaps of fun :D
