Is the temperature sliding thing loose as? Like it has no resistance?

check the heater knob moves the heater tap under the engine bay when you move from hot to cold

^ and also check that the internals of the heater tap have not stuck shut

If it's sliding from cold ><hot, and not giving hot air, maybe heater core is clogged.

you can do a simple test for the heater core, if the coolant is passing through.
Start the car until it heat Up,
slide it to Heat.
Open the hood and look at the firewall, you should see two hoses going through the Firewall,
Touch them with hand, Both should be Hot(warm) If 1 is warm and 1 is cold, that's will tell that it's possibly Clogged.

In case its heater core, and you do not have air compressor, get garden hose and some radiator cleaner. poor a little bit of radiator cleaner inside the heater hose and use the garden hose pressure to push all the dirt out.
