Hi All,

im looking into buying a lightweight flywheel pretty soon, and Mfactory flywheels cost $296 delivered which is heaps cheap for a lightweight flywheel :D So just wanted to know - Is it neccessary to change clutch when installing a lightweight flywheel? coz atm my clutch still works great but i hear so much about HD clutch and flywheel combo.

Also, Does anybody know much about Mfactory lightweight flywheels? as in, quality, gains, durability, etc

Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks heaps in advance :D

You don't HAVE to change your clutch when putting in your new flywheel. If your clutch is fine you can put it back in.

But you need to ask yourself how you use your car? Are you going to abuse it an anyway? Quick take offs etc?

Reason why a lot of people put a new clutch in when they put the new flywheel in, is that your knocking two birds off with one stone. Theres a bit of labour involved in changing the flywheel (taking off the gearbox etc) so a lot of people put a new clutch in at the same time.

Hey,

No you dont need to change your clutch for a lightened flywheel. The reason the two are commonly put together is because doing them at the same time saves on labour, compared to doing one then the other. Changing a clutch is expensive, but if you are going to hit two bird with the same stone they you'd be nutters not too. People see it also as a time to upgrade or replace a clutch when they want to upgrade to a lightened flywheel or vice versa.

Remember that the power you make at the crank is lost in transit as it gets to the wheel. An efficient drivetrain will make you faster. A HD clutch will transfer the power better than a stock one.

I dont know about Mfactory lightened flywheels but I love my exedy one which is about 4kgs. Stock dc5r fly is really damn heavy in comparison. When driving the car it does feel quicker. Revs alot faster but the revs also drop quicker too. Read my thread http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?158986-Lightened-Flywheel-and-a-Stage-2-clutch

Not only used by a few rally and race teams but also quite a few street and track day cars.
We can keep costs affordable because we are our own manufacturer and actually supply to other brands :-p
