Hi OZHonda-ers,
Need advise please. I just got my new MY12 Accord Euro tinted yesterday. When I get home I realised there are few dust particles in them especially around the edge of the window. Is this normal? I came back to the guys that installed it and they say either to reapply them or remove and refund my money. I'm using the formula 1 tint from tint-a-car in north melb.
A bit disappointed with how they handle my car. Few hand marks on the rear ceiling of the car. Water/soap residue on the leather seats etc. Also spot a 2cm scratch on the rear windscreen (on the outside). Not sure it this is them but given the car is brand new I have no clue what would have caused that.
So, should i get my money back or get them to reinstall it? What is the acceptable level of dust particles on car tint?
any comments would be greatly appreciated.
cheers

From what you described it sounds like little errors. Still unacceptable though.
How highly regarded are these guys. Compared to other shops are they professional and enthusiastic for the work?
You could either get a refund and go somewhere else [ cause it sounds likes whoever did the job was lazy] or make them do it again and watch over their shoulder like a hawk. People seem to work harder that way. And dont feel like its not your place to hawk over his shoulder, they didnt do a 100% flawless job.

Hi Dakdak,
thanks for the reply. they provide lifetime warranty and the place have been around for many years. I was just surprised with the amount of dust particles in the tint and how they they actually treat the car (seem like rushing the job and minimal attention to detail). I was just afraid if i get them to remove the tint it will leave more scratches etc on my car. The guys also said the window tint will never be perfectly free of dust particles.
Hence why I'm asking what is the "acceptable" level of this tiny bubble of dust particles in the car tint. I would also expect them to be more careful not to scratch any of the car's interior and exterior.

I would say, get a refund and get it done somewhere else. It might be true that there's never gonna be perfectly free of dust (unless its done at a vaccuum room) but most people shouldn't even able to spot the dust anyhow.
Removing tint should be easy as, its almost like peeling off a sticker.

I would also suggest the second option of getting a refund and going somewhere else. If you don't like the way they handle your car then there is no point getting them to do more work on it especially when they offered to give you refund. Were they considerably cheaper than other professional places?
If you want a really professional job I would suggest going to places that authorized dealerships use when they sell you window tinting as an aftermarket accessory. They seem to do the best jobs I've seen.

I paid $300 for the job. The place is a national wide franchise and have been around for a long time and some car dealership actually uses them. I don't know if there is any bigger place than tint-a-car in Melbourne. Don't want to go to tintprofessor as heard few horror stories.
Yeah i might get a refund and go somewhere else but afraid other place would do worse. it's a dilemma.

Well then maybe this specific franchise branch is not as professional. If you still trust the name then maybe try a different location.

bad luck dude :( new car too :(
id get a refund but i kno the feeling that u pretty much paid them to scratch your car :(
ask them how on earth did they scratch the windscreen (how long is the scratch btw?). at least get them to clean the handprints!
"if u stand a metre from the car and cant spot the particles then its acceptable" - my tint guy
ive only ever used tint mart.
i can spot my ones too but that with my face really close to the windows/windscreen when im cleaning/detailing the car.

If you're willing to make the trip down to south east, I can recommend CarX. They did my DC4 and I was very impressed with the work. The guy doing it was great and doesn't rush at all. $200 for most passenger cars.
Personally i'd never go with those big companies, they're very hit and miss cos you get different people working on your car to the reviews etc

if u got a friend whos tint you are happy with, ask where and who they got it done with
Mate, I've got the same issue as you. Brought my new Euro to tinter and they
1. Scratched my exterior door, rear wheel fender and rear bumper.
2. Rear door trim was not put back properly.
3. Rear seats were smudged with soap solution and can't be removed.
4. Driver side tint has a 4mm diameter bubble (i think due to adhesive failure)
5. All the windows have same dust/hair particles in them.
Maybe you can wait for 2 - 3 weeks and see if they are still present as I was told it takes time for the adhesive to completely dry itself and cure.
I am also at the dilemma if I should get my car down for them to fix. :(
I paid $350 for the job.

^I'd be making a huge fuss man... that kind of service makes me sick. Can't get all those things fixed to how they were but you can squeeze some sort of compensation or refund perhaps? Worst case threaten legal action?

hi guys, thanks for the reply. i've decided to just get money back and take-off the tint. I'm going back to the shop on Monday. Let's just hope that they're not going to make another damage/scratch on my car when they remove the tint. By the way, what is our legal rights to get them fix any scratch/damage??
And i'm in the market for a good tinter in Melbourne area. If anyone knows a place they'd like to recommend, please let me know.

I guess you skimmed past my recommendation on the previous page. CarX in Clayton, price is ridiculously cheap in comparison to other tinters these days.

I'd be more worried about the stains on your interior and seats, I had a tint job done on my old car and the interior was stained, no matter what cleaner I tried, you could still see water stains running down the interior door panels. Make sure they remove all stains as well...
