Hi! :wave:

I just bought a 98 civic ek1.. just not sure what engine I have exactly. Not sure if it was ever swapped. It looks stock but yeah, would appreciate someone naming it. Massive love if you can recommend oil & coolant for it !

Looks like a D16Y4 SOHC.. 1.6L non vtec.. Hard to tell exactly unless u take a pic of the engine number.

Coolant = oem honda or buy nulon pre-mix coolant
Oil = depends on how many K's its got. If its over 150thou just use 15w/60w semi synthetic.

If ur going to do a minor service u might as well do the below;
- thermostat
- oil filter
- fuel filter
- spark plugs
- air filter

Inspect/ Top up;
- brake and clutch fluids
- power steering fluid

Enjoy your new pride and joy.

That would be a major service, not a minor

Thank you so much for the replies. Noob Question Pt. 2: Where do I get the engine number? I searched around and took shots of most of the numbers i could find.. but where do I find the definitive model#?

Umm nope. Well depends on were u go or how u wanna call it.

Major service generally involves all of the above plus: lubricating uni joints, bearings, mounts, door hindges etc, rotation of the wheels, timing belt, idler pulley, water pump, PS/ALT belts, checking/adjusting timing to specifications, gbox oil change, full inspection report, replacement of any blown light bulbs, inspection of the exhaust sys.

Thats what a major service is which costs ya over $800+....
