is it the diff on cv joint

hey guys car just ****ed up. is it the cv joint or the diff. the revs still rev up like normal but the gear doesn't bite. and when i put it into gear and rev the car makes a loud rattling sound. there is black thick liquid on the rear right wheel. so question did i blow my diff or is it my cv joint that is broken?

this is the sort of thing that is way too hard to diagnose over the internet. It could be either. But if there is grease on the wheel, its probably the outter CV joint.

Are you mechanically minded at all? If so, pull it apart and have a look. If not, youll need to get it towed to a workshop.

yeah its got grease on the wheel. probably cv joint

Or you could take a look.

Chock the front wheels, car in gear and running. Someone should be in the car standing on the brake too. Look under car.

If your prop shaft is spinning it's not your gearbox. If one of your CV cups is spinning it's not your diff. If one of your half shafts are spinning but the wheel isn't it's your outer CV.
