View Full Version : Buying Accord Euro - General Questions

Hi,

I have decided to buy a '05-'06 euro (leather, sunroof) for my missus.

I took a manual one with about 50,000km for a drive last night and noticed that the engine seems rougher than my parents '03 auto accord (not euro) with 150,000km. I know the engines are different between the accord and accord euro, but should the euros feel a bit rougher?

I might lower it on king or eibach springs, has anyone got photos of their lowered euros with stock 17" inch wheels?

Performance wise, i am thinking of getting a nice exhaust. What do people recommend and what sort of power gains do you get? Is it even worth it?

Thanks,

Adam

Also, did the euros come with 3 keys when new? The 2 black main keys and a grey chauffeur key?

Thanks again.

Mine came with just 2 black main keys, no grey backup.

Perhaps the euro wasn't as well taken care of compared to your rent's accord?

My folks came with the grey key, must not have come with the euros.

The car i am looking at is owned by a couple in their 70's and is one owner and has been serviced every 10,000kms. It felt a bit rough and had a bit of a vibration through the steering wheel when i revved it. Could be a shot engine mount, but at such low kms i doubt it. Apart from that, it drove well. I am taking another euro for a drive tonight to see how it compares.

It's none of these, it can be felt when you are stationary and rev it. It could just be the way the euros are - not as smooth as the standard accord?

It should be the same, had the car had the steering pump/hose recall done?

He told me that the car went back for a hose recall, he didn't say what hose though.

I reckon that car would be a good buy. I'd say it just needs a good service.Fill it up with some 98 fuel(any brand except Shell)Change engine oil(a good full synthetic 5W30),filter,fuel filter, air filter and run an upper cylinder cleaner through it like the Subaru one. After that take it for a good highway drive and give it a bit of a flogging.Rev it out to just below redline a few times.

Watch out for the creaking clutch, front of the car shuttering when under acceleration load at about 80kms a hr, squeeks and creaks in the car dash and roof. Good luck.

Agreed, oil makes a massive difference on the the euros NVH for some reason. And injector clean is probably needed as well, since honda injectors were notoriously noisy to begain with. And if it's auto, auto tranny fluid.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Drove another manual euro with 170,000kms and it drove similar, with a sort of rough vibration through the wheel. I drove an auto and I didn't really notice it.

Anyway, I have agreed to buy it and will pick it up tomorrow morning :)

It's due for a service in 5,000kms. I might change the oil myself before hand. What good oil should I buy?

Thanks all :)

Thanks mate :)

She drives an 86 accord manual and used to drive my 98 accord manual before i sold it.

I looked at merc e430, and also a Holden caprice/calais/ss. We used to have an 05 caprice and 03 SS so thought we would get something different. I will probably get myself a VE SS or V8 e class merc sometime in the net year.

Anyway, she doesn't know I am buying the car. Actually she has not even seen it. Tomorrow she will get a nice surprise :)

I am rapped that it's one owner, elderly couple, low km car which should (touch wood) give me no hassles. When I come to sell it in a few years, it will have low kms too.

Gratz on the purchase!

Make sure you do a complete do over i.e. fluids, oils, upper engine clean etc to make it feel neeewwww

There are a few threads about oils, most recent one is: http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?141189-CL9-Is-Fully-Synthetic-bad-for-an-Euro

I use Royal Purple on mine and I love it.

Just sayin' =P

Grats on the purchase, as lazarus said above, give the car a full detox soon. I use USDM Mobil One full syn engine oil.

So you'll probably want to do:
Engine oil (use an engine oil flush If it looks really bad just this time but some here dislike engine flushing so each to their own)
Brake fluid (you need to replace it once every 2 years anyway)
Fuel injector clean (the bottle thing you add to petrol)
Auto tranny fluid (a must if it's an auto, non Negotiable)
Throttle body clean (undo the pipe, then it's really just spray and wipe)
Engine top body clean/seafoaming
Airfilter clean/replacement.
Cabin air filter, under the glove box, more for health reasons than anything else.

Your car should feel. Brand spanking new after that

Thanks for the feedback :)

I got the car today, missus loved it.

I was just wondering are there any good Honda specialists that people recommend for servicing? Do people here think its worth getting the car serviced at a Honda dealership?

Thanks again.

Watch out for the creaking clutch

It is doing a bit of creaking. Is this a simple grease job at the pedal?

Spray a bit of lithium grease into the clutch fork.Do NOT use WD40.Should get rid of it for a while. It may come back!

I remember reading a year back on this, it was mentioned that lithium grease can cause more damage. I had the creaking clutch, and I intentionally used the lithium grease at the slightest reappearance of the creak.

Temporarily it made it go away for about 2 weeks max (i dont drive much). But within couple months the creaking got so bad to the point I couldnt properly (or smoothly) press and release the clutch that made shifting a big headache.

(reason I made sure to spray was that after it got bad my stupid aftermarket warranty acknowledged the issue and replaced it).

Last I checked the clutch master cylinder was around 240$ with 220$ labor from Honda .

A link on a previous thread, where to spray also,

The problem is with the clutch master cylinder

http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?12165-Creaking-clutch-pedal-Euro/page47

Its just a known problem that happens. A couple of dealers have said that they did revise the part and it isnt a problem anymore, but there is no evidence of such I believe.

I found it quiet better. Not as much body roll imo.

Can anyone tell me if the 2005 accord i have (pre facelift) has front and rear curtain and side airbags or just curtain? The reason i ask is it says 'side curtain airbag' where the curtain airbag is usually located.

Usually there are 2 separate airbags, one for side, one for curtain.

Thanks.
