Hey guys,
So I started my obsession with Honda's 5 years ago and put my savings towards a one owner/28000km/Championship White DC5R. It was and still will be my first true love, but as of 3 days ago the DC5R was sold onto a friend who I know will give it all the love that I did.
Anywho, a few months back I went searching for a Civic. After trolling carpoint for a month, I thought it best to try an alternative method and gave tradingpost/gumtree a whirl. My theory was old people that own EK/EG Civics know only of the tradingpost nd I could potentially snap up a clean low km example. After 3 hours of searching using my newly developed strategy I found the car.

Anyway it ticked every box I was looking for, and I picked it up a week later from Port Melbourne :)
I have spent many nights in discussion with friends kicking around Ideas for what this car would become. So I have sussed outmy options and I've decided its going to be mix of 3 car types.
Stanced :P
Track Warrior XD
Daily :)
Most will think this is impossible, but with the backing of the 'Teg' Im hoping this is some what achieveable...
I went crazy for first 2 weeks owning the EK and bought:
Type R Front Lip
Type R Rear Lip
Type R Grille
Spoon Carbon Fibre Wing
JDM Yellow Fog Lights
Window Visors
Phillips Crystal Vision
Then I went through the pain staking process of spray painting every moulding, lip and various other black trimmings to give it that cleaner look.
I went to Japan late last year, with my mate Sem and among various JDM trinkets I picked up a couple items for the EK.

hey man thats a nice clean car, 'n i like your approach by using an alternative to carsales...
sounds like you got some plans, too. Any reason why you went from DC5R to EK CXi? and do you have some updated pics of what you turned it into?
I always wanted a clean white EK myself hahah....

Hey Daan,
Honestly the EK was just meant as a daily. I was selling the Teg to buy a TME Evo 6.5 :)
I was going to just run some good tyres and run higher boost with safety mods.
Anyway I ended up really enjoying having the EK as I didnt have to worry about it in day to day life (as much). If the motor blows its only $500 ill be coughing up, which gives me some piece of mind. And I don't mind about taking it to the track. I spent my 5 years with Teg always worried about where I parked or putting to much wear and tear on it. It was baby'd like no other.
Also owning a DC5R or in your case an EP3R from factory there already quite quick and stock suspension setup isn't half bad. When I went to Race Spec Dampers it made a difference, but not massive. Where a standard commuters car, like the EK Civic will show drastic changes with modifications. This has been something thats keeping me excited day in, day out.
As for current progress:
I took this pictures back in December after I finished spraying all the black mouldings and lips:

I got bored one night and went out to take some pictures in Camberwell:

Today I spent a few hours learning how to wire a headunit and put theory to practise. A mate had shown me how to solder a few weeks early and it seemed fairly straight forward. 2 hours of pulling off interior/matching up circuit diagrams/soldering/wrapping to be left with a mysterious screw that doesnt have a home.. it was worth it, somewhat relaxing just sitting in car fiddling with wires.. oh and my new Alpine X305 was lovely :)

Also picked up my new HKB Boss Kit to get that JDM acquired MOMO wheel put in :)

Another day, another update..
I told you guys that this civic will be getting built rather quickly. I've got a bit of money to burn, decent photography skills and I get myself into
crazy situations often - so consider watching this thread closely
Today I went down to bank to move some funds across, after running very tight on cash the last couple months.
Went straight to LSD Motorsports website in the states and ordered a brand new set of Enkei 92's. And yes 'hondapop' the offset is low.
Well not ridiculously, but enough for perfect fitment.
Enkei 92's 15x8 +25
http://www.showerks.com/site/wp-content/uploads/enkei92-300x291.jpg
and I had a little bit of money remaining on my debit account. So I went to Spoon Japan and ordered some Ressy covers, lol :)
http://www.streettuned.com.au/images/uploads/SPOON%20-%20Reservoir%20Tank%20Cover.jpg
Also took a stroll down to VicRoads and transfered the rights of my Custom plates to the EK. Word of warning to all VR charge $105.80 to transfer plates between two parties. So if your ever in the market to buy someone elses custom plates, keep in mind the additional costs that they dont display on the website.

Another late afternoon update, the car has been fully stripped out from the boot up to the front seats, preparing junior for its first day @ winton. Depending on how many parts I can get on her in time will really determine the times. But I'm aiming for 1:55 with no engine mods stock air box, stock exhaust, stock ecu, stock headers etc. Just working on light weight and good traction for now

Thanks to Ievaq8 for his knowledge and help with coilovers and spring rate choice :)
Borrowed an old DC5R friends soldering kit last night to wire up my Alpine X305 (better tune selection and possibly save 200g of weight reduction, hahaha.)
PS also just grabbed oil/ryco filter/spark plugs and rear number plate LED.
The car was just serviced 6 months ago, but im thinking it might be nice to spend some time over weekend flushing her clean

until a good mates common sense, pointed out that I was just taken away with never seeing split tone lugs before. And infact they looked ugly. hahaha So I changed my order to:

Hey guys I'll answer questions soon... Just shooting off another update. Godspeed X Bar arrived and I began to install today.. Turns out the two high tensile seatbelt bolts that are supplied in the kit, do not fit with their product. Sounds like bad quality control to me.. I did send the company and suppliers emails, notifying them of this problem. Ended up driving over to Bry's house (aka FRUSH CEO) and he suggested we use a dremel to make the bolt heads smaller. An hour later the bar was fitted and we went on a test drive. For a 100% stock cxi civic, with a big metal cross bar running in a fully stripped rear end, it was quite amusing, but boy oh boy did this brace transform moonsr jnr. Car is far more bitey in turns and it is impressively stiffer in the rear. Cars balance and rigity is somewhat scary.
If any EK or Integra owner buys this X Bar - don't hesitate to PM if you need help. I now know this product inside out.
PS - Just ordered new front strut bar & I'm sorry to those wanted to split some seats with me, but Sem has already dibsed.

There is no manufacturers quality control now, it's all consumer QC. Seems to me that all of the aftermarket products in particular should come with a disclaimer "Some end user fitting required"

i understand what your saying, but when a product says, "gauranteed 100% fitment".. You sorta expect it to fit 100%... not 92%.. as that is not 100%. unless becoz of inflation it has moved upto 107%, then i could understand

I agree with you there 100% (at least there's one 100% you can be sure of), unfortunately these guarantees just seem to be increasingly just marketing talk (has got worse since online trading).

Just an update.
I picked up coilovers on Wednesday @ 9pm (late night trading) from Garasi Auto. I highly recommend this shop, they have great prices and as you know I'll always hunt for the best price. Plus its run by a fellow Ozhonda member... The custom spring rates were no problem at all and service was extremely fast!
As soon as I got home I went straight to work, removing stock coils to make room for the BC Racing BR Types :) 14k Front and 10K Rear.
Install was extremely straight forward and Im 100% certain that buying suspension brand new is a must. Everyone seems to lie flatout with suspension components, all Bullsh!t about how many Km's they have done, or when they bought them.. Trust me BC's are as good if not better than any crap Buddy Club is putting out. And atleast BC's warranty is usuable with representatives all over Oz.
Enough of my banter. I then put on the Enkei 92's and went for a quick troll around my block.. I felt so uplifted. Even with my hands covered in 14 yo gunk from under the car, I still couldnt help but smile and turn up some shick tunez.
Today I adjusted heights, 1 finger gap all round... Im scrubbing only at times when the car is bumped around or under sharp cornering. This mainly due to running dampers on super soft & gaurds are not yet rolled (ox...?????? hahaha)
anywayz.. Went out for dinner with some mates tonight and Im getting quite concerned with the cars presentation. One comment was 'dude, your brace - no interior and fitment is enough for cops to scout out your car'.... sheeittt! lol I was living happily in denial, before this comment. So now I gotta drive smarter for awhile and decide how im gonna deal with it as a daily and not as a track stripped/roll bar'd/stance mobile. Im thinking about just removing c pillar brace, putting rear seats back in and giving that a whirl for some time..
Oh.. and before I forget, delivery man came today when I was out in the garage, missed him by 2 minutes! I was so gutted... Left a calling card with instructions to pick up my front strut bar tomoz :)
So my route tomorrow is Hawthorn PO (TOWER STRUT BRACE)- Endeavour Hills (949RACING 6UL) - Fish n Chips (Burger w/ lot) - Catching up with mates (Beer)

Shiiieeetttttt man you goof hard out.
With the x bar and all, honestly advise you to remove it all and put your rear interior+seats back in. If it ain't illegal itself, then it's gonna attract heaps of unwanted attention. Coppers might not dick you for that (pretty certain they would), they'll find something else to.
Honestly loving the build so far, lots of quick progress. Need them pictorial action man

Im thinking about just removing c pillar brace, putting rear seats back in and giving that a whirl for some time..
Roll when you are ready... as for police... have a cup of cement., tint your windows and you'll be fine.

Meh to ignoring police - clearing defects gets old, especially with current nannystate roadworthy conditions.
Tint would be a wise investment though, there's a chinaman who does good work in blackburn. Did s14 in 20% for $200 lifetime warranty.

Anyway quick update.. Still waiting on purple lug nuts, blox lca's to arrive from states.. And can't put Whiteline sway bar + subframe brace in until the lca's arrive... I picked up the strut bar on Friday, sorta gave a quick ten minute look at it and the A/C piping runs stupidly to close the the strut tower.. Brace won't fit in easily, quickly tried to shift the piping when it was unbolted, but it gave to much resistance.. so I'm just gonna wait for Tom to take a look at it.. Don't wanna go busting A/C piping :)
Ohh and tomorrow @ 10am me and x10hz are driving up to tullamarine to visit Jap Warehouse and check out their array of brides for my new rails.. Some times will be had, haha

I installed the LCA's with all my strength pulling up the drum brakes inline with the pivot bolt 3 times while trying to figure out the whiteline brace and sway bar.. At first I thought the inner lca bolts from the kit didn't fit.. But it just required a sh!tload of grease and some WD40 :)
MOONSR JNR is looking pretty cray at the moment! Defect will be coming shortly...
Anyway today I shot round to bry's to use his soldering kit to put in my swoosh tachometer gauge.. At first it seemed simple and it worked.. But once I mounted all the trim back in it decided to not work... Bry checked all the fuses, and everything appeared fine.. And 20 mins later it randomly started working again. So I'm praying that it continuos to function properly.

ben just a word of advice, i was running blox lca with buddy club N+ 10kgF 6kgR (i think) and within 3 months time the lca shock mount bushings (middle one) was a goner
went back to oem lca and it lasted a few months until the car got hit.

Had a lovely weeked at winton with the wontons.. Ended up with a 1:49.634..
Honestly didnt think it would break the 50's. I was aiming for 55... Every session i would do 2 laps warming the tires and not touching the brakes. Then do 1 hot lap, a warm down and then back in the pits.. My issues were the brakes, the drums couldnt lose the heat once i used the anchors. Thankfully ievaq8, ox and toli have been jotting down an oem upgrade for me :) which im really excited for! Big thanks to the wonton boys for the accom, food, support, 801 crew for assistance and ox, tom and toli for the love and setup advice

Would personally stick to Steel Nuts if your going to continue prolonged racing at Winton IMO, my Work Nuts (Open Ended) are starting to show signs of wear as you tightened them up, would possibly pay to bite the bullet and get Steel Nuts and that way it's done with.
Then again depends what your budget allows.

Whoa, just randomly found your build thread and spent the last hour reading it at work lol (something's wrong with the net here, takes 30seconds to load a page zzzz).
You're progressing heaps fast! Saw your car in person at the fail Honda meet last weekend. Was curious of what engine you had under the hood ahahha. Very nice car, keep it up!

Just thought i would write a quick update, well since the last trackday at winton it was clear that a brake upgrade was in order. I was only able to get one lap out of the drums, which was frustrating but understandable. Not knowing the first thing about brakes, and there OEM replacements/compatibilty, Ievaq8 has come and saved the day. He showed me different setups and explained the whole thing to me. While some of the information took a few weeks for me to fully grasp, i finally got the jist. I picked up a DC2R Brake master cylinder and booster from Eddie @ Seeker Motorsport yesterday, thanks to a hook up from Huy :) Also ordered HEL braided lines from the UK. Everything else from pads to prop valves and conversion all comes from Tom. So you can see how I am forever in his debt.
Next Winton day is 9 days away, and if all goes to plan with the brakes im hoping to 'brake' into the 1:48's
Ill put some pictures up soon

Seeing as though Im not tracking tomorrow, and im on lunch break at work. I thought I may do a quick little update
Well to begin Oxer told me to get a short shifter to match my LONG FLOWING HAIR. lol... PURCHASED!
And speaking to DC5R legend Charger, I have just gone down the road of my own timing at track days.. I wanted to save cash and have more track time. Doing some research for compatibility with 'Harry's Laptimer Pro' It would appear I have found a good Bluetooth GPS kit :)
within 0.05+/- of a second accuracy... PURCHASED!

UPDATE:
Well where to begin... I am eternally greatful to Tom for busting his ass off for me and my lil civic. No way in hell would I be able to suss out what parts were needed, let alone how to tighten the bolt of the handbrake cable.. haha.
So a massive thanks and many hugs go to the direction of him and his dog Chino. Best bloke!
The new setup is 100 times better than the drums and granny spec front disks from factory. I am now finding excuses to brake hard - Over shooting my street on purpose, aiming my car a lamp posts, vearing towards park cars - any reason for me to jump on the anchors.. :) hehe
Police must love me - I am the complete opposite of a hoon.. no power mods, great brakes and impeccable manors.
Heres a couple of pics of the front brakes and our EK's:

Another quick update...
I've had some bad luck in the last week. Pulling my hair out each time I miss another test & tune day. I know my cars capable of pulling a second off my PB, but unfortunately I keep hitting hurdles the days leading up to winton.
Pretty much, I chucked on my semi slicks on Wednesday last week to get an alignment and the damn rear wheels were wobbling. Took me ages to figure out what it was. First, bad hub - second, wheels not balanced - third, tyre squirming... To finally realize that the 2 spacers on the rear were throwing the rims balance off.
What I didn't realize was this wobbling was happening last track day, without me seeing it in the rearview. So I'm lucky nothing frushed up.
So now I have to fork out another $150 on new extended wheel studs and hub centric spacers... Fml
Once this is done.. I'm not touching the civic for a very long long time.. I have another project to focus on in the meantime. Type R Special haha

Apparently that rays ones aren't very good. I'm running mc guard which has a small washer on the base of the nut which prevents the nut from moving over time. Was $200 a set.

Thought I would make an update as it has been sometime.. After 2 months trying to sort out what tyres to run, and having tirerack constantly shutting me down with new regulations that big brands like Hankook and Dunlop will not allow them to ship items internationally anymore. I thought I would try my luck to save some cash and sell off my 6UL's and Advan Ao48's to make way for new enkei rpf1's and some more extreme track compound tyres. Well the end result was a big FAIL. 14" rims didnt clear and I had to sell the Enkei's after 2 days of them arriving from the States.
Anyway besides my fail in the shoe department, I had made an order from JDMYARD from their firesale. Received new Function 7 LCA's and RDA slotted rotors to fix my warped discs in the front. Since fixing the only 2 problems I had with the car, being the brake shudder and torn blox bushings - life has been boring :P.. I dont think I have ever owned a car where there is nothing that needed fixing or replacing, I was left contemplating selling the car (I know how stupid is that).
In my writting style I will as usual cut to the chase - I was with my track buddies (WONTONS) and everyone was going to head down to Tampered's Winton day on the 26th of August. With 2 weeks preperation time, I decided I would just give up with going for more PB's and just have fun. My thought was lower the car, drive on my enkei 92's with stretched Nankangs and take it down for an alignment. The goal was to hopefully get a 1:55, but honestly I wasnt confident at all, as these tyres on the street have honestly sucked. I always complain about them in the wet, with 60kw of power the still lose traction with light throttle - and in the dry I've just always considered them to be mediocre, just always thought of them as bob jane cheapies. Considering I paid $50 a corner I really wasnt to fussy with what I was getting.
So with heavy as fek wheel, shitty hard compound Nankang commuter tyres and derpy grin it was off to Winton. Stayed the night at Benalla with 10 other WONTONS, a case of beer, bottle of whiskey, pack of uno cards and 20 Litres of 98 octane in a jerry can it was an uncomplicated trip. Still only managed to get in 4 hours sleep - sorta defeats the purpose of staying overnight, but atleast it skips the early morning drive.
Got to the track - set up shop, found out reservoir cover socks are now a scrutineering fail (lol) and lined up in the dummy grid...
First session the EK did a 1:57 (which I was thinking ok - its got more in it, but how much)
Second session 1:54 (with passenger, at this stage I was starting to feel the limits of the tyres)
Third session 1:52 (removed passenger, passenger seat, drained washer fluid lol :P)
Fourth session I had an enlightenment, I started to use the Nankangs in my favour, throwing them into corners catching it mid corner. It allowed me to get back on the power straight away and landed a 1:49.3 - yeah I know that was a BIG enlightenment haha
Anyway in a nutshell - I think driving on crappy tyres compared to Semi Slicks has taught me alot, really developed my skills on track and if you can believe it a day that was just a joke with the car too low and heavy rims, more aimed at a photoshoot than a track day the car was only 1 second of its PB with super lightweight rims, proper track tyres and perfect height to complement lcas/sway etc.
