Hi Ozhonda, as the title says i'm having trouble of which springs to choose for my 96 Civic Coupe. And if possible, can you guys post a picture of ride height (approximately) of what it'll look like? I'm currently on stock ride height with sportmaxx's (15x7 +38). Thanks guys

Tein will be a better quality spring, but if you buy it from overseas you will have no warranty, kings do exactly the same thing and have a lifetime warranty, Koni also do a coil set that are quite cheap and work very well on the street with a 35mm drop f&r.

Yeah i was planning on getting it overseas since its cheaper (correct me if i'm wrong). Why do most people say skunk2 aren't that great? Is it because the springs are like really stiff? And can you link me the koni coil set please?

There isn't too much info on them, but Google Koni Sport Springs and you'll get a few results

The biggest issue with Skunk2 coils is that the material isn't as high quality as other brands, so the longevity isn't there

King springs may do exactly the same thing, but after a couple years they'll sag like titties. Tein might be a better option if you're planning on lowering your car.

Ahh i see fair enough then i guess Skunk2 isn't the best option then. And i googled Koni Sport Springs and doesn't seem like its for an ej8. Then i ebayed it and came acorss this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Honda-Civic-Koni-Sport-Struts-Springs-Kit-Race-/170757029885?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27c1e97ffd#ht_2385wt_1163. I'm guessing these are the sport springs?

And yeah your right thats what i been hearing about the King Springs, i might just go with the s-techs. A 1.9"F/1.7"R should look okay on 15x7 +38 wheels i guess

Yeah, EK/EJ/EM all the same when it comes to springs and shocks basically.

The kit you found on ebay would be awesome for a street car and it would hold up well on the track too

Sorry to be a noob but can you explain to me the spring rates and all that? I'm guessing the higher the no. the stiffer the springs?

That link is pretty interesting, rep given...

To compare, the Kings are 230lb front and 125>220lb rear - so they are softer than the Eibach Pro kit, but about the same as the Tein S.Tech (firmer in the rear though)

Ahh i see, so i might as well just get the s-techs then, they are cheaper then skunk2 and also not as stiff. Thanks for the help seena and trism!

Having driven same car with kings then fitted with s-tech I can say the teins felt nicer to me and others who drove it

Somehow they arent as harsh riding yet feel tighter and more controlled

Kings have this weird characteristic of being soft but harsh riding, they tend to crash over bumps yet feel soft on corners.Very odd

Different ride heights or the same?

Very close yes,the s-tech rear were slightly lower from memory

I was very impressed at how nice the s-tech felt

Hmmm, no shock change either? Interesting that they felt so different while being so similar...

Sorry for thread hijack

S tech all the way... Not only are they more firmer, and ride more better, but over all, the quality is just better...

Though different car, The car we fitted S tech to, a CL9, the car felt much better, handles and ride quality... Though the drop is only minimal, at very most, 1.2 - 1.4 inch drop, its still looks sporty with that lower ride height....

The spring rates are not overly stiff, only slightly firmer, so its not back breaking or too soft

Though you dont need to change shocks, its always a recommendation to do so if ur running a lower ride from performance pov...

I just bought S-techs for my EJ8, should be here in couple weeks, hope they bring my ride down to a good height. Needa save up for shocks now. Would tokico hp's be fine with the s-techs? Its the cheapest one if i can remember.

I never knew you had s-techs at JDMYard, i had to buy mine off ebay. Got them from an authorised seller for $260 all up which is pretty decent i assume considering his sold i think 16 already.

It gotta do with it's height too I think....as the units of spring rate are usually kg/mm or lbs/inch

When I was getting shocks for my previous Integra, I found that ppl from other honda forums say the tokico HP allows up to 1.5 inch drop only...

↑Check the #22 post, possibly that one was installed with the s-tech

and I took a ride in a BB6 prelude with the tokico+spring set before, they were soft....but pretty comfy tho

Then now Im running the same set up with Skunk2 shocks + H Tech springs (of integra) on my EG
it's not too low but firm and more than enough stiffness on the street and hill (not for track tho)

Yes you are right but this is when drivers go wrong!
King springs is proven to be the best quality spring out there
but people use it for height if you want height and performance you need to also change your shocks

people leave shock's stock and just slap on kingy's and it'll sag towards the years cause
combination of stockies and kingy;s arnt the best

correct me if im wrong..

It could also be from the tien h-techs as they lower the car somewhat between 1-1.5" only where as s-techs go from 1.9/1.7".
Well the HP shocks were my first option since they were on budget, if not i was thinking either skunk2s or KYB GR-2 SHOCKS STRUTS (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/KYB-GR-2-SHOCKS-STRUTS-HONDA-CIVIC-1996-2000-/370579118538?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item56483c99ca) they are pretty cheap.
Also my brothers DC2 has s-techs with skunk2 shocks and they feel pretty good, its not too bumpy and not too soft and pretty firm as you said.

I see
I was worrying about getting the s-tech, the drop would be too low...thus I got the H tech...

but finally....Im regret LOL

LOL you can always sell them and get S-techs, i reckon s-techs are a perfect drop if you want stance AND comfort. I heard skunk2's are really stiff hence very rough riding because they give a big drop.
