I know this must have been asked plenty times, and I HAVE searched and read for the past few hours through many threads, but I can't seem to find a guide or set of instructions on how to remove the stock stereo from a Civic FD2.

I would like to replace the head unit (with a Pioneer head unit, sat nav and double din fascia) but have no idea where to begin with removing the stock head unit. This is also the first time I am doing anything like this so I would like to know what tools to use (if any) to remove the stereo without damaging clips or leaving scratches etc.

Thanks for any replies!

Basically... To put a double din system into the car, you have to buy a double din fascia. After you buy that, pretty much just remove the panels from the steering wheel and that will allow you to remove the current headunit panels. After that it's pretty easy.

Hi thanks for your reply. I understand I need the fascia and have ordered one, but what should I use to remove the panels? I've tried lifting the top side of the stock stereo but it won't budge and I'm scared it may break with too much force

You need to start from the driver's side panels.

1. Remove the panel beneath the steering wheel. You will need to upclip the plastic cover hiding the wiring looms, then it's a matter of removing one screw to the left and pulling it out HARD. No clips will break.
2. Remove the panel above the steering wheel. No screws in this part. Just pull hard (but gently) from the right to the left. Once the right side is out unclip the wires. The whole panel is held in with clips!
3. At this point you should have both panels above and below the steering wheel removed. You can now go ahead and pull the double din out. It is HEAVY so be careful pulling it out. There will be 4 connections to it, disconnect them all. They are all different shapes so you won't have a problem matching them up again.
4. Chances are you have removed the air con temp hose...this will need to be reattached from the BOTTOM (much easier) once you've slotted the double-din back in.

I don't think I've missed any steps there but that should be the jist of it.

I'm quite positive there were no screws holding the double din in but I may be wrong...if there were I haven't got them in there anymore as I remove the head unit quite often.

I was wrong...

there are screws holding the head unit in place.

To access the two screws, you need to pull the cover (at the top) from the pocket in front of the transmission knob. It's just clipped in.

Once the cover is out, you'll need to wriggle in an awkward position to see the screws from below. They have been torqued by the Hulk so be prepared to use some force to un screw them.
